An evil man is caught by sin,
but the righteous one sings and rejoices.

For this is what the Lord says:

Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the chief of the nations!
Proclaim, praise, and say,
Lord, save Your people,
the remnant of Israel!”

“Rejoice, childless one, who did not give birth;
burst into song and shout,
you who have not been in labor!
For the children of the forsaken one will be more
than the children of the married woman,”
says the Lord.

But Moses replied:

It’s not the sound of a victory cry
and not the sound of a cry of defeat;
I hear the sound of singing!

David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before God with songs and with lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

There was, in fact, a command of the king regarding them, and an ordinance regulating the singers’ daily tasks.

“Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing.

All the people followed him, playing flutes and rejoicing with such a great joy that the earth split open from the sound.

And every stroke of the appointed staff
that the Lord brings down on him
will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres;
He will fight against him with brandished weapons.

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to each other:

We played the flute for you,
but you didn’t dance;
we sang a lament,
but you didn’t weep!
