Women received back their dead by a resurrection; but others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection; and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, and also of bonds and imprisonment; they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword; they went about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented, of whom the world was not worthy; they wandered in deserts and mountains, and caves and the clefts of the earth.

For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus; for ye also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they have from the Jews; who both killed the Lord Jesus, and the prophets, and drove us out, and please not God, and set themselves against all men,
