And whoever shall exalt himself, shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself, shall be exalted.
They said to him, Grant to us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches: To the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their hight, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their hight, all that drink water: for they are all delivered to death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
And he put forth a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them, When thou art invited by any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room, lest a more honorable man than thou be invited by him; And he that invited thee and him, shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.read more.
But when thou art invited, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honor in the presence of them that sit at table with thee. For whoever exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
