Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I)

Embracing diversity, ensuring equity, and fostering inclusion isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s a strategic imperative for long-term success.

Employers who actively promote DE&I create stronger, more resilient organisations that thrive in today’s dynamic world.  Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI) supports organisations to build workforces that reflect the diversity in society, and workplace cultures that are welcoming and supportive of all colleagues regardless of their background or personal circumstances.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I)

BITCI works with companies collectively and working one-to-one through:

Companies can join a collective campaign promoting DE&I by signing up to Elevate: The Inclusive Workplace Pledge.  Elevate provides a framework for employers to hold themselves accountable to their claims around DE&I.  Elevate also offers benchmarking, whereby signatory employers can measure their DE&I performance against an anonymised and aggregated workforce, gaining invaluable insight in the process.

Tailored one-to-one support for employers in the design of DE&I strategies, action plans and policies.   BITCI offer feedback on existing activities such as recruitment and retention processes and community outreach as well as advice for future activities that clearly link DE&I back to business strategy.

BITCI’s employment programmes work with hundreds of diverse jobseekers every year.  These programmes support the career progression of people with disabilities, women returners, migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and members of The Traveller Community. BITCI’s expert understanding of the issues and challenges facing these job seekers guarantees BITCI can support employers to diversify their hiring practices by:

  • Reviewing job descriptions for open roles
  • Reviewing recruitment process
  • Identifying diverse candidates for open roles
  • Supporting Job Trial programmes
  • Offering in-work support for successful candidates

At all times we work in partnership with employers to co-create impactful programmes that meet the needs of the business whilst also having direct social impact.

A&L Goodbody

A&L Goodbody has been a member of BITCI for over a decade and were one of the founding signatories to the Elevate Pledge. A&L Goodbody commits to measuring the diversity profile of their firm as well as publicly communicating on the tangible actions they are taking on inclusion.

As well as a focus on indicators of diversity such as gender, ethnicity and disability, A&L Goodbody is a champion for socio-economic inclusion.  Proactive initiatives include engaging with their local communities through education and employment partnerships to increase the number of applications to their graduate programme from lower socio-economic groups. This focus has seen an increase in applications, and in turn more applicants securing summer intern placements and traineeships as a result

Working with BITCI, A&L Goodbody launched their first voluntary disclosure campaign for diversity data and are active advocates for such campaigns. By actively collaborating with BITCI in sharing their experiences, successes and challenges in advancing the DE&I agenda, A&L Goodbody have demonstrated real leadership on the topic.
