Late Transfer Window Moves All Fans Want to Happen

With little more than 24 hours remaining in the European summer transfer window, fans worldwide are preparing for what promises to be an almighty climax.
In these final hours, it’s frequent that the most exciting, most promising and most expensive transfers tend to go through, putting the months behind to shame in terms of pure entertainment.
Although it’s impossible to please everyone, there are those moves that the majority of the football community just seem to agree on from time to time.
Taking into account those deals that have already popped up in transfer speculation this summer, the following moves are bound to be seen as favourable for both player and club parties by just about everyone.
Honourable Mentions
Lewis Holtby to Schalke or Everton
Having only moved to White Hart Lane in January of this year, it may seem premature to call time on Lewis Holtby’s Tottenham career.
However, with a rapid influx of new competition for the central midfield places, the German international’s chances of a starting place seem to be in great danger, never mind a place at the 2014 World Cup.
Since Holtby is yet to feature in Spurs’ first three games of the season, the Daily Mail’s Neil Ashton alleged that the playmaker would be allowed to leave North London and a return to Schalke or Everton—whom his father supports—would be among the best options.
Shinji Kagawa to Borussia Dortmund
On the other side of the Revierderby, Borussia Dortmund could also have looked to bring back a former fan favourite of theirs this summer.
In fact, the Black and Yellows were reported by the Telegraph’s Mark Ogden as having made an approach for Shinji Kagawa, but were rejected by both the player and Manchester United.
However, while the Red Devils are understandably eager to hold onto such a talented midfielder, everyone wants to see a player fulfil their full potential, something that may not happen at Old Trafford thanks to a lack of strategic understanding.
Peter Odemwingie to QPR
Although Steve Clarke has brought in a few striking alternatives this season, Peter Odemwingie looks likely to remain a West Brom player this season.
However, if the Baggies were to secure a replacement, Peter Odemwingie would undoubtedly be the next forward out of the club, with his January antics hard to forget.
Having driven to QPR’s car park after hearing that a transfer had been secured, the Nigerian international was left stranded in West London.
Even all these months later, Odemwingie’s actions remain a comical piece of potential career suicide and the player could still be a perfect fit at Loftus Road.
Kaka Returns to Milan
During his days at Milan, Kaka was something of a football god, winning the 2007 Ballon d’Or as well as countless other individual awards and eventually earning the title of world’s most expensive player, if only for a little while.
That exact big-money transfer has put more than a slight dampener on the Brazilian’s career, and the last four years at the Bernabeu haven’t delivered nearly what many would have thought was possible from Kaka.
So, it’s encouraging to see the Daily Mail’s John Drayton report that the Rosoneri are close to re-signing their former superstar in a deal that could revive one of the world’s great players.
Rather than appearing as a firing player for Real, Kaka would be welcomed back as one of the prestige players in Massimiliano Allegri’s squad and, in time, could show some of his former self.
Julio Cesar Finally Moves Almost Anywhere in Top Flight Football
Nobody wants to see a player rotting at a standard that he clearly doesn’t deserve, unless it of course involves some sort of sentiment between player and club.
Needless to say, Julio Cesar may be the biggest person to blame for his current predicament, but the Brazilian international and Champions League winner simply can’t ply his trade with QPR in the Championship this season.
Even Harry Redknapp has spoken of his surprise at the lack of movement for Cesar’s signature, per Goal.com’s Mark Bowering, showing just how shocking the current situation really is.
Given that Cesar remains Luiz Felipe Scolari’s No. 1 choice for Brazil, Arsenal, Fiorentina or any other side in need of another talented goalkeeping option should act fast, lest a huge talent of the game be wasted for now.
Fernando Torres Back at Liverpool or Boyhood Atletico Madrid
With Samuel Eto’o arriving at Stamford Bridge just last week, things seem set to become even more difficult for Fernando Torres in terms of his Chelsea competition.
The Spaniard has infamously experienced a drop in standards during his Chelsea tenure and should be as eager as any to perhaps return to a place where his fortune was considerably better.
Portuguese paper A Bola (h/t Metro) have alleged that a return to Liverpool may beckon for the forward which, with the possibility of Luis Suarez leaving, could work in their favour for the short term.
Back in June, the Metro also reported that a return to Atletico Madrid could be on the cars for Torres, which would see the 29-year-old partner up with Spanish compatriot David Villa.
Saying that, the emergence of Diego Costa as a reliable option in attack could make such a move all the more unlikely, but it’s nice to think about for one of the players who, at one point, was among the best in the world.
Alex Song Comes Back to Arsenal
In a near-perfect series of circumstances for Arsenal, April brought the news that 2012 departure Alex Song was getting homesick in Spain and was looking for a return to North London.
That was according to the Metro, who quote the midfielder’s cousin Rigobert as saying that “at Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field – he doesn’t feel like this in Spain and it makes him feel bad.”
An anchoring destroyer, Song is exactly the kind of central presence the Gunners are in need of right now and, if he could be signed for a fee lower than that which they sold to Barca for 12 months ago, would be a great acquisition.
Oscar Cardozo Joins Barcelona
Regardless of Neymar’s arrival at the Camp Nou, another striking option may not go astray at Barcelona, with Benfica’s Oscar Cardozo supposedly eager to leave the Portuguese club, per Sky Sports.
TalkSPORT have stated that the Catalan giants are interested in the prolific Paraguayan but are yet to make any real moves for his signature.
At 30 years of age, Cardozo is far from your regular Barcelona signing. Yet he has been a massive servant to not just the Eagles, but European football as a whole, giving us some delectable pieces of entertainment over the years.
While it may not mean much in the business environment of football, the striker deserves his chance at one of the biggest clubs and is unlikely to get another opportunity unless a move can be sorted this summer.
