I love setting up a DIY create your own trail mix bar for my kids every so often so that they can create their own snack to munch on when they want. Kids love to feel like they are in control, and this is an easy way to make them feel empowered.
A trail mix bar is also perfect at a party as a make-and-take for guests or to set up with friends and family before going camping or hiking. Add a printable trail mix bar sign and it will bring everything to life!
The video below shows you how I set up our trail mix bar and at the bottom of this post I have a link to all the supplies I used including the cute serving tray!
This trail mix bar was a great addition to add a magical touch to our indoor campout family stay-cation! It’s simple (and totally doable!) but so much fun!
One of Josh and I’s favorite dates was an overnight camping trip we took with Josh’s dad up in the mountains. I had never gone camping much so I was loving every minute of the adventure. One of our favorite activities was hiking. There’s just something beautiful about a peaceful climb in nature. BUT hiking makes you hungry and trail mix is the perfect go-to adventure snack!
When I started planning our camping stay-cation I knew trail mix was a must! A trail mix bar is the perfect addition to a stay-cation, camping birthday party, woodland baby shower or even just an afternoon snack!
To set up a cute trail mix station is a breeze. Simply print out our trail mix bar sign printable, fill some cups or bowls with ingredients and set out some spoons and little baggies to fill!

The key to making a great trail mix seems to be a combination of flavors and textures- sweet and salty, spicy and mild, chewy and crunchy. The best setup for a Trail Mix Bar includes a variety of each of these flavors and textures.
The possibilities and combinations are endless when it comes to the number of trail mix recipes that you can make! That’s why it is such a big win for kids, they can feel like they are in control and can create any combination they want!
The best part about the Trail Mix Bar is that it can sit out for a long time. Set it up, and forget about it. Total win! Other food you serve that requires refrigeration will need to be put away, but trail mix can sit out the entire night or party. If your family is like mine, it’ll still be the go to snack late into the evening!
