Alias Tutorial _ Audi A5 Front Corner Blend

Audi A5 Front Corner _ Alias NURBS Modeling

Corner_G3

This is a very confusing area of the model to most students

When you build the fender, it must be built with G3 cond. to the front end, so you must already have 3 lateral front end crvs, established to align to.

You have to be really sure what you are trying to build. Make sketches first and go and look at the clay model or the real car, if you haven’t been given scan data.

I had to build the Lamborghini Murcielago 2002 (wind tunnel model) at Udelhofen in Germany just from blueprints, so you can find yourself in a position with no scan data.

You can see that I have established G3 cont. for the patches below the headlamp & then at the boundary alongside the h/lamp I have made a tangent break because there is no curvature between the fender & the lamp.

Class A Surfacing & Dynamic Section Control

Many students present work which has been built with the Align Tool. The surf boundaries are sometimes the only part of the surface that has crvtr. cont.

The Align tool is very useful, but it’s only part of achieving G3 right across a surface set.

I use the Dynam. Sect. cont. all the time to find out what my surface internal crvtr. is doing.

TIP:

Use various forms of Diagnostic Shading, Dynamic Section Cont. Align tool and finally Direct modeling to get Class A internal surface curvature continuity
