Starting June 21, the best time of year begins: concert season, of course! As Kansas City venues prepare their green rooms and stages, now’s your chance to run through your favorite artist’s discography, request time off work, and give your ears a pep talk before pelting them with power chords and power vocals. Here are some of 2019’s hottest summer concerts in Kansas City.

Bad Company & The Cars Tribute Bands

Date: Friday, June 21

Details: Throw down a crisp Alexander Hamilton ($10) for a ticket to see Just What I Need and Rock Steady, hometown tribute bands of The Cars and Bad Company, respectively. The Head and the Heart

Details: With the release of their recent album, indie-folk darlings The Head and the Heart make a stop at the Starlight in KC right after the Fourth of July. Tickets begin at $35 and can be ordered through the Starlight Theatre website.

98 Degrees

Date: Friday, July 12

Location: Kansas City Live! Block (Power and Light District)
Details: Sponsored by Kansas City’s Mix 93.3, the Coors Light Block Party concert series welcomes nineties pop quartet 98 Degrees to the KCPL District. KC Summer Soul Fest

Date: Sunday, July 14

Location: Grandview Amphitheater (Grandview, MO)

Reggae Music & Jerk Festival

Date: July 19-20

Location: Island Spice Lawn (Westport KC, MO)
Details: Friends of Reggae International partners up with Island Spice Caribbean Restaurant, and together they pull out all the stops for their 16th annual Reggae Music & Jerk Festival. Become a weekend Rastafarian and chow down on some dry-rub ribs without straying too far from your backyard. General admission is $20 at the gate or $15 if pre-ordered. Billy Bob Thornton & The Box Masters

Location: Knuckleheads (Kansas City, MO)
Details: He’s been a Texas high-school football coach, a disabled man from Arkansas with an affinity for pataters, and an assassin whose career path led him to Fargo, North Dakota. This July, Billy Bob Thornton becomes, well, Billy Bob Thornton, the lead singer of The Boxmasters, whose tour lands them on the Knuckleheads stage in Kansas City. Tenacious D

Details: JB and KG are back for a summer tour to promote their “Tenacious D in Post-Apocalypto” animated film.
