Hispanic Heritage Month: highlighting and uplifting Hispanic voices on YouTube

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the vast and rich culture of Hispanic people in the US. This month, we will shine a spotlight on Hispanic creators and inspire more people to share their unique voices.

YouTube kicks off a month-long celebration spotlighting outstanding creators for Hispanic Heritage Month on the Official YouTube Channel, where you can discover creators like TheMacroShow (1.37M subs), a gamer and content creator who goes live weekly and hosts a “for noobs” series focused on introducing people to different games, Caamileon (599K subs), an artist who posts about art and life as a young college student and Rosiapicosaathome (373k subs), a domestic engineer who uses fun and humor to take you through the world of domestic responsibility.

We’re also celebrating on YouTube Social channels with a month of Hispanic creator content showcasing perspectives and experiences within the Latinx Community, including a Latino cooking themed Short with creator Alejandro Rosario (225k Subs).

Be sure to check out a Hispanic Heritage Month specific playlist that will be featured on YouTube Kids homescreens during the month of September.

YouTube TV will also host a “Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month” playlist which will include shows & movies directed, written, and starring Hispanic & Latino self-identified individuals.

By expressing their creativity and lively traditions, Hispanic creators on YouTube are representing the community and challenging stereotypes. We are excited to provide a platform for Hispanic creators to connect with new audiences and ignite a new generation of creators to share and celebrate their heritage with the world.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, Brand Marketer Merc Heredia-Ferran interviews YouTube Creator and Artist Camila Salinas (Caamileon).

"Tied Together" 2023

Merc: How did you get into posting on Youtube?

Camila: I was inspired from a young age to create videos on YouTube but it wasn’t until 2021 when I began to share a more behind the scenes process on my art. It was a fun way to get my art out there.

Merc: In what ways do you think that your Hispanic heritage has influenced your art?

Camila: Most of my art is self portraits, so everything about myself, including my Hispanic heritage is always included in my paintings. I created one painting titled “Tied Together” in 2023 about my identity as a Mexican American and it’s still one of my favorites today.

Merc: What does your Hispanic heritage mean to you?

Camila: It means everything to me, but most importantly it means family and home. Everything I am is tied to my family, they are my biggest supporters and taught me everything about love and laughter.

Merc: Are there any ways you plan to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?

Camila: I’m going to be back in college away from my family, but obviously I’m going to need some tacos al pastor. A little cliché but they’re my absolute favorite, hopefully I can find a good spot where I will be living. And I’ll most likely be celebrating with other Hispanics at my school to feel a little closer to home.
