There are times in all of our lives when we find it hard to remain dedicated servants of the Lord. For example, our trust and belief may waver as we encounter troublesome situations and difficult people. During these times, remember that this is normal, as we all experience these moments of uncertainty. However, it is imperative that we power through these moments, persisting in our devotion to our Father and remaining committed to our heavenly purpose.
Here are 3 ways to remain steadfast in your faith:
- Act on your faith. It is quite easy to become complacent in your worship of the Lord. For example, you may talk the talk, but you may slowly forget to walk the walk. Rather than acting on the most significant tenants of your belief, you may become content to simply speak of them, trusting that is enough. However, as Ezra teaches us in the book of Ezra, many times it is necessary to put your faith to the test to demonstrate your steadfast devotion to the Lord. In Ezra’s case, he had the option to request help from soldiers and horsemen to keep him and those in his caravan safe; however, he put his trust in God and simply prayed for heaven’s protection. Because of his steadfast faith, he and his followers reached their destination unharmed. Next time you are fearful about putting your devotion to the test, recall this passage: “Be doers of the word and not hearers only.” James 1:22 (ESV)
- Hang in there. Some days, it may seem that everything around you is telling you to give up on God’s promises. You might feel ridiculous waiting for something that seems incredibly unlikely to ever appear, and you may begin to grow weary of awaiting a sign that may never come. However, Noah certainly felt the same way when he was constructing the ark. He had to face endless sunny days while a flood seemed out of the question as well as those around him who believed him to be silly for his steadfast faith. Yet he powered through his doubt and remained devoted to his heavenly task. Because of this unshakable trust in God, he became one of His most faithful servants, and he was prepared when the flood finally arrived. So, keep Noah on your mind the next time your faith seems to be flickering, along with these words: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
- Don’t let them break you. While you walk the path that God has laid out for you, you will encounter many obstacles, be them situations, decisions, or even people. However, it is imperative that you do not let these hurdles slow you down or distract you from your heavenly purpose. Instead, stay true to your faith and to the Lord, your Father, and you will be rewarded. Take, for example, Nehemiah. When he was tasked with the responsibility of restoring two miles of Jerusalem’s crumbling walls, he let nothing impede his ability to complete his mission. Even when three envious men came to distract him, frustrate him, and intimidate him, he stayed steadfast in his faith, focused on his purpose, and followed the path that God led him down. When you need to remind yourself to be unwavering in your heavenly journey, remember these words: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (ESV)
Today, turn your blues to blessings by staying steadfast in your faith.
“It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.” Mark 7:15 (NLT)
