1982 SE Racing Quadangle
1982 SE Racing Quadangle
After a few painstakingly long months of hunting and searching for the right parts,My Quad is finally finished...Kinda
The looptail Quad was built from 1979 until mid 1982.It is believed that as little as 150 Quadangles were built using mild Steele tubing. After breakage and strength issues, the remainder Quadangle looptails were then made out of chromoly tubing which ended in mid 82.
In mid 82 ,SE changed the looptail design to what you see here (non-looptail rear end). The first few (50 or so) were made using left over looptail chromo (late 82) then switched to Reynolds 531 tubing in 1983 thus making an 82 non loop Chromoly Quadangle quite rare...to some
Here is my 82 chromo SE Quadangle built using either Mint, NOS mounted or NOS parts.

Re: 1982 SE Racing Quadangle
86GT,your eyes are'nt deceiving you..that's a brown fork
reekie,I have no idea. I have posted them on OS-BMX and Vintage but nobody seems to know.
The same fluted bar with a straight bar is said to be early schwinn box bars. These have the v bar and are believed to be early race inc or SE bars.
Someone posted an Ad from BMXA 79 advertising all of SE products with these bars were on a PK...Who knows the truth though???

Re: 1982 SE Racing Quadangle
Thanks guys
The quad is currentlu going through an era correct transformation
Gone are the fluted bars, fluted seat post and beat blue tuf neck. I scored an SE seat post, Im in the process of getting a set of NOS SE powerwing handle bars and I'm looking for a blk or silver stem. I also replaced the Shimano pedals with a set of NOS Campy blue pedals.
The wheel set up will be for sale soon. (Blye 7X's,Campy tipo hubs, blk spokes and Chen Shin fat n skinnies) They will get replaced with blue Campy BMX hubs, chrome 7X's and Snake bellies

Small update
Sold the fluted bars and beat blue stem but wasn't able to find a set of 10" powerwing bars. I know there are plenty of the 8" rise bars to go around but my mind is set on a set of the Tall Boy 10" bars
Temporarily in their place are a set of NOS VDC blue ano Tuf Neck bars and an NOS Tuf Neck mini stem. Not sure what stem im going to eventually settle on.
Also gone is the fluted post and in its place is an NOS SE seatpost
I'm still thinking of selling off the wheel tire combo. The dark blue hoops against the lighter blue Campy Cranks/Pedals is bothering me way too much. Matching Campy hubs and chrome 7X's should do the trick

Only a few pains-taken months? That looks fantastic. I'm hoping I can get mine in shape in a year.

Re: 1982 SE Racing Quadangle
and its still not finished blood
I finally found a set of SE 10 Big Boy power wing bars (Thanx Donnie) and replaced the faded neck with a ESP stem.
Campagnolo Crank set, Pedals and wheel set will soon be replaced with something more traditional.
