Hurontario-Main LRT: The Next Steps

After Wednesday night’s Town Hall hosted by Lab-B Co-working and Bramptonist featuring Mayor Linda Jeffrey and city councillors Martin Medeiros, Pat Fortini and Gurpreet Dhillon, many may be wondering (whether in favour or against the Hurontario-Main LRT) what the next steps in the process are. Council is slated to vote on the issue in just a couple of weeks. Now truly is the time to take action if you so wish and be a part of the decision that will most definitely shape Brampton’s future.
If you support the Hurontario-Main LRT that has been proposed to us, the one that’s slated to run directly into our Downtown as a surface route, there are a number of ways to take action:
  1. Send an email to the Mayor and Councillors expressing your support.  (Contact details listed below) Don’t forget to CC the City clerk’s office in your email ([email protected]) to ensure that your position about the issue goes on record. Send your email by July 7th, 2015.
  2. Call your local Councillor. (See below)
  3. Sign up as a delegation to speak in front of City Council on July 8th at 7:00 pm. If you support this LRT, now is the time so speak out. The Council will vote on this issue the very same night. Right now, the vote is split, and it could go either way.
  4. You can sign up for a delegation by filling out this form and emailing it to the city clerk’s office at [email protected]. You will receive a confirmation that your request has been received and that you are on the agenda. THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS JUNE 29, 2015 BY NOON.
  5. Sign the petition to support the LRT here
  6. Lastly, and most important, come to the council meeting on Wednesday July 8th at 7:00pm, to show your support and to participate in what will likely be one of the most passionate debates and council meetings Brampton will ever see.
  7. Sign the petition to support the Hurontario-Main LRT here.
