Investigators with the Peel Regional Police Major Collision Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a collision that claimed the lives of four people on Thanksgiving Monday.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., a Pontiac travelling westbound at high-speed on Bovaird Drive, near Gillingham Drive, crossed over into the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons.
It collided with a KIA carrying three passengers resulting in the deaths of driver of the Trans Am, and the driver and two passengers of the KIA.
Video footage has confirmed that a second vehicle was also travelling westbound beside the Trans Am at a high rate of speed. Police believe they were racing.
As the two vehicles encountered traffic, the driver of the Trans Am, Calisto Mendonca, abruptly changed lanes, losing control and crossing over into oncoming traffic. The violent collision resulted in a large car fire.
Police are now looking for the public’s help in locating the third unidentified vehicle.
“It is very likely that the other driver involved is aware of this collision. Our investigators would like to speak with that driver,” says Staff Sergeant Carty, of the Major Collision Bureau.
