Nice castle. How many of this color scheme have there been though? I remember the one in 2013... are there others? Group activity! Let me know if you remember any. And which is your favorite?
I’m glad that lego switched off of the base plates with different levels and went to just flat ones.
I got this set from Costco for $20... My first real castle set.
@Your future president:
I’m definitely not a LEGO Castle expert, though I don’t believe there are many, if any others in this same color scheme....could be wrong though.
(I think I personally like the 2013 version a bit better, although this is certainly a beauty.)
I hope ‘regular’ Castle makes a return soon, now that Nexo Knights is basically retired...
@mr.bob:
Wow man, sounds like a good deal! Looks like a great set.
Speaking of LEGO at Costco, in my nearby branch for a while they had a small, but decent sized LEGO section. Had some Creator 3-in-1, City, Star Wars, Ninjago, and lots of Classic. A few months later I noticed it was gone! Asked one of the workers there and they said they only stocked it a few months before Christmas....
Wasn't this the one that had the function that let you turn it from the blue heroes' castle to the red villains' castle? A fun little feature, I'd love to see more of it.
@Your future president:
Although I guess you could count the Fortrex (Nexo Knights) as a blue and gray castle, even though it technically wasn’t under the Castle theme...just saying.
6091 King Leo’s Castle also had the blue gray and black color scheme.
I still wonder why Lego haven't made a D2C castle yet. A large one, with 4000 or 5000 pieces would be fantastic.
@MataNui2009 ... no, I don't think that was this castle. This castle was the modular one, where all the castle structures were built individually on separate base bricks, and then arranged together on the raised baseplate later.
But this castle had the blacksmith downstairs and two separate dungeons (with a skeleton on either one, no less), so that's fun.
^Notes say:
"Recreation of Royal Knights set 6090 and also Knights' Kingdom sets 6091/6098. Also called "Royal King's Castle". Later repackaged with an extra minifigure included. (which is similar to the 05 police station, 7237)"
I'm sorry to disagree, but I miss the old days of fun raised baseplates... and baseplates in general. I liked the variety of the raised ones, and the era of widely available baseplates in the shapes and colors one would actually want. I guess you can file this comment under the "good old days" category...
Completely agree. I miss those baseplate-days. Raised or otherwise, instant terrain was so awesome.
Or printed studded baseplates, like the ones from Paradisa or the old Pirates line. Blue with islands, shorelines, etc. Feels a bit like the Command&Conquer level editor of yore.
Gosh I just realized how old I am getting.
Now I feel like James May ;-)
One of the few Castle sets I do not have. :(
This is a great castle and references to the Royal Knights, Knights Kingdom and Dragon Masters (the blue wizard) are really nice.
Wow, so awesome! Seemed to be a nice set! So sad, that LEGO does not produce castle sets in 2018/2018! :-(
I like most of the castles they've made over the years, but this one is not among the best. The baseplate is fine but seems plain, the figures are weird mismatch of prints and the set suffers from the juniorization of parts.
@giovannesl LEGO did 2 D2C big castles recently- 71040 and 71043. Obviously they are not label as "Knights and Castles" theme, but they are two big and well designed castle sets.
@MataNui209 The castle that could switch from blue to red is 8781 The Castle of Morcia, from 2004.
There are several themes that should come back and Castle is one of them.
@andrelego:
I totally agree. For me personally, I’d love to see some of the original LEGO themes make a comeback, mostly Classic Space, Pirates, and Castle. Also would love to see more Wild West sets, and Adventurers 2.0. I’d even like to see some more ‘classic’ Town sets. .... As cool as some of the newer City sets are, I’d love to see them come out with some more town staples, such as a garage (not counting the new Corner Garage modular building), a new train station, more buildings, not sets like ‘Sky Police.’ On one hand, I think it’s cool that TLG is trying to innovate new concepts, but I feel like they should do more to expand LEGO City and do more ‘real-life’ sets and buildings.
i wish lego would release more castle theme sets.
a module stile castle sets would be amazing.
One of 2 things that I have to buy to my collection. A Lego castle and a pirate ship. Would be good to see this theme again, with most recent building techniques, Lego could come up with an excellent and detailed castle, for sure! 12 minifigs?? You could start a battle!!
CASTLE!!!
There was a castle on Brothers-Brick last Friday that hints at what could be done with the theme these days, if only in terms of parts usage and not size...

Certainly looks better then 6098-1: King Leo's Castle (2000), also 350 more pieces for the same price basicly.
I hope a Castle theme with multiple structures makes a return soon.
@G2covers:
I’m just LOVING that castle! I’m assuming that those arches around the bottom are attached to flexible tubes? I learned about that technique a few months ago. Love the parts usage....
The fellow who designed it must be one talented MOCer!
It makes me think, wow, imagine if TLG actually released an official set like this - how incredible that would be. They could totally do something a bit like the Modulars, using elements in unique and cool ways! With all the new tiles and pieces being made, I could see them doing something awesome!
Attaching this set...

Certainly gives the castle a more exotic location.
