1964 Jaguar XKE Series I 3.8 Roadster
This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was acquired by the seller in 2021, and work in the last two years has reportedly involved overhauling the brakes and rebuilding the front and rear suspension. It is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in black over black leather, the car is equipped with a black soft top, a soft top boot, enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, and a heater. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, a tool kit, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example was finished from the factory in black and was repainted in 1987. Additional equipment includes a black soft top, a soft top boot, enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, a fender-mounted left mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/75 Kumho Sport tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Work performed by the seller in the last two years reportedly involved rebuilding the front end with replacement ball joints, bushings, wheel bearings, and brake calipers and pads along with rebuilding the rear suspension and replacing the calipers, rotors, hubs, and bearings. GAZ shocks were also installed at each corner.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a heater.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The clock is inoperative.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Cylinder head stamping RA6477-9 is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Heritage Trust certificate as well as the engine block as shown in the gallery.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
