This 1968 Porsche 912 is a soft-window Targa example that was sold new in California and reportedly remained registered in the state to its original owner until 2009, when it was sold to his nephew. The car is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and has been refinished in silver over black leather upholstery. Equipment includes a removable Targa roof panel, a brushed stainless-steel Targa bar, a removable soft rear window, rear storage compartments, 15″ perforated steel disc wheels, disc brakes, bright bumper guards, bucket seats, lap and shoulder belts, an AM/FM radio, and a heater. This SWB 912 soft-window Targa was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered with a copy of the Kardex, a copy of the original bill of sale, the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and a clean California title.
Finished from the factory in Bahama Yellow, the car was repainted silver some time ago, while the left rear quarter panel was repaired in 2012 following a collision. Equipment includes a removable vinyl-covered Targa roof panel, a brushed stainless-steel Targa bar, a removable soft rear window, chrome sugar scoop headlights, fog lights, black windshield wipers, a retractable antenna, and a single exhaust outlet. The Targa seals were replaced in April 2022. The seller notes a dent at the left end of the front bumper, and paint meter readings are provided in the gallery.
The 15″ perforated steel disc wheels are mounted with 195/65 Bridgestone Potenza tires. The car is equipped with an independent front and rear suspension, and stopping power is provided by disc brakes at all four corners. Work in 2019 included rebuilding the brake calipers and installing Bilstein shocks. Steel braided brake lines were installed in April 2022.
The cabin features front bucket seats trimmed in black leather upholstery as well as a matte-black dashboard with aluminum trim. Appointments include front seat head restraints, shoulder belts, a rear parcel shelf with optional storage compartments, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, aftermarket speakers in the door panels, and a heater. A tear is noted on the headliner of the Targa top.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, auxiliary gauges, and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 11k miles.
The 1.6-liter flat-four was factory rated at 90 horsepower and 90 lb-ft of torque, and it was rebuilt in 1981. Stainless-steel braided fuel and oil lines were installed in 2019, and work in January 2025 consisted of a valve adjustment, carburetor tuning, an oil change, and replacement of the spark plugs. Photos of compression test results are viewable in the gallery.
Engine stamping *1282739* is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Kardex. Transaxle number 1282486 is also shown on the Kardex, and a photo of the corresponding stamping is provided in the gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle.
The copy of the Kardex shows the factory colors and serial numbers along with original delivery to California.
