Supercharged 440-Powered 1969 Plymouth Road Runner Coupe
This 1969 Plymouth Road Runner coupe was purchased by the seller on BaT in August 2023 following a refurbishment and modifications carried out by Hacker’s Hot Rods & Customs of Henderson, Nevada. The car is powered by a fuel-injected 440ci V8 fitted with a BDS supercharger and paired with a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission. Other equipment includes gray leather upholstery, an aluminum radiator, an electromagnetic hood latch, Wilwood power-assisted disc brakes, an electric parking brake, 18″ Centerline wheels, air conditioning, power windows, a MOMO steering wheel, a B&M Pro-Ratchet shifter, a custom dashboard with AutoMeter gauges and a Kenwood touchscreen infotainment system, and front and rear seats sourced from a fifth-generation Pontiac GTO. This modified Road Runner was listed on BaT in July 2024 and is now offered again with a clean Washington State title in the seller’s name.
The body is said to have been placed on a rotisserie during the refurbishment, and it was refinished in its current shade of black using GM-sourced paint. The bumpers were also re-chromed at that time, and replacement glass was installed. The hood is secured by an electromagnetic hood latch, and it features dual linear actuators, one of which does not work. The addition of hood pins is recommended before high-speed driving, and there are scratches on the rear bumper. The photos in the listing and the gallery below are from June 2024.
The rear of the car was mini-tubbed to accommodate 18″ Centerline wheels mounted with 245/40 front and 345/35 rear Mickey Thompson ET Street tires that the seller recommends replacing. The suspension features an independent front setup and a live rear axle with front and rear coilovers. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood power-assisted disc brakes. An electric parking brake system is also fitted.
The front and rear seats were sourced from a fifth-generation Pontiac GTO and are trimmed in gray leather. The front seats are power-adjustable, and other features include air conditioning, power windows, a Kenwood touchscreen infotainment system, a B&M Pro-Ratchet shifter, and a black leather headliner. The custom dashboard and center console are finished in black and feature faux carbon-fiber trim that extends to the door panels. Dual batteries are mounted in the trunk along with a 120-volt power inverter. The air-conditioning system is said to be weak.
The three-spoke MOMO steering wheel frames Mopar-branded AutoMeter instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 1k miles, which represents the distance covered since the completion of the build. Total chassis mileage is unknown.
The 440ci V8 was rebuilt by Vegas Machine of Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2012, and features a BDS supercharger, a FAST fuel-injection system, and finned Mopar Performance valve covers. An aluminum radiator was also installed during the build along with extra engine bay bracing. The fuel lines were replaced under current ownership, and the water pump was replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission that was rebuilt by Bob’s Transmissions of Henderson, Nevada, in April 2015 and converted to a manual valve body. The underside wears a spray-on bed liner coating.
