This 1970 International Harvester Scout 800 was acquired by the seller five years ago, reportedly from the son of its original owner who is said to have bought it new in Kingsport, Tennessee. A subsequent refurbishment included a color change to Surf Blue Metallic over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, replacement of the floor pans, refinishing of the metal hardtop, and installation of an electric power steering setup. Power comes from a 232ci inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. This Scout is sold with a line setting ticket and a Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
Originally red, the truck was refinished in Dodge Surf Blue Metallic under current ownership approximately two years ago. The removable hardtop was repainted Oxford White in 2018, and the seller has also replaced the windshield and gasket.
Factory 15″ steel wheels wear full covers and are mounted with Cooper Discoverer A/T tires. A covered spare is attached to the tailgate. Windshield wipers are not fitted, though an electric conversion kit will be included in the sale.
The cabin features black vinyl upholstery on the front bucket and rear bench seats. The seller notes that the floor panels in the passenger and cargo area have been replaced and coated with bed liner. New window felts were also installed as part of the refurbishment. The inner doors and dash panels are painted to match the body.
Factory equipment includes an older tape deck that is missing its control knobs as well as a 100-mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer that reads approximately 41k miles. Approximately 1k miles have been added under current ownership, and actual mileage is unknown. The horn is reported to be inoperative.
The 232ci inline-six was given an oil change in 2019 along with new spark plugs and wires. The fuel tanks, sending units, and filler necks have also been replaced under current ownership, and an aluminum radiator has been fitted. The seller notes that the exhaust system will need a new tailpipe.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. Body bushings, brake pads, and fuel lines have been replaced under current ownership, and an adjustable electric-assisted steering setup has been added using late-model parts.
The included line setting ticket shows the equipment with which this Scout was originally built at the Fort Wayne, Indiana, assembly plant.
