Euro 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280CE 5-Speed
This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280CE is reportedly a European-market example imported to the US under prior ownership, and it was purchased by the spouse of its current owner circa 1999. The car underwent a refurbishment between 2016 and 2018, which included being refinished in metallic blue and reupholstering the beige MB-Tex and leather interior. The car is powered by a 2.7-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission and equipment includes chromed 16″ wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, a sunroof, fog lights, and dual side mirrors in addition to a Nardi steering wheel, a vintage-styled stereo, and air conditioning. This W114 is now offered in Pennsylvania at no reserve on dealer consignment with owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean Indiana title.
Factory finished in green (860), the car underwent a color change to metallic blue during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include European-specification headlights with wipers along with fog lights, a sunroof, a retractable antenna, dual side mirrors, and chrome bumpers and trim.
Chrome-plated 16″ five-spoke wheels with star-logo center caps wear older 215/60 Pirelli P6000 Sport Veloce tires that the consigning dealer recommends replacing. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs.
The individual front seats were reupholstered in beige MB-Tex and leather with textured inserts, and the rear bench and door panels are trimmed to match. Additional appointments include woodgrain trim, a vintage-styled radio, Alpine speakers, and a center console housing controls for an air-conditioning unit from Vintage Air along with a USB outlet.
The Nardi wood-rim steering wheel frames a 230-km/h speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 6k kilometers (~4k miles), although total mileage is unknown. The turn-signal stalk does not stay in its selected position.
The 2.7-liter M110 inline-six features Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and has been fitted with an aftermarket intake system, a Pertronix electronic-ignition unit, and a Griffin aluminum radiator. The battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. An aftermarket exhaust system has been installed and the underside has been undercoated, per the selling dealer.
The chassis tag is stamped with the following information:
- 860 – Green paint
- 429 – Power steering and five-speed manual transmission
- 454 – Tank lock
- 462 – Rear fog lamp
- 590 – Heat-insulating glass, heated rear window, laminated safety glass
