1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe
This 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was acquired by the seller in 2018 and underwent refurbishment in 2022. Work included converting the rear brakes to disc, installing an adjustable front axle beam, reupholstering the interior, performing rust repairs, repainting the exterior silver, and refreshing the four-speed manual transaxle. Additionally, the air-cooled flat-four was modified to displace 1,835cc and features a 10:1 compression ratio, CB Performance Magnaspark ignition, dual Weber carburetors, and a Vintage Speed exhaust. Additional details include 15″ steel wheels, tinted windows, heated front bucket seats, and a Kenwood CD stereo with Bluetooth capability. This Karmann Ghia coupe is now offered at no reserve with parts receipts and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in silver in 2022 following repairs to the front apron, wheelhouses, fenders, and sections below each headlight. At that time the windshield was replaced, the windows were tinted, and the door, window, and other exterior seals were replaced. The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps with stamped Wolfsburg crests and are mounted with 175/65 Premiorri Vimero tires. The car is equipped with an adjustable front axle beam and four-wheel disc brakes.
The reupholstered cabin is lined with Kilmat sound-deadening material and features heated front bucket seats and a folding rear bench trimmed in black tweed with tartan inserts joined by replacement door panels and a charcoal headliner and carpeting. The dashboard fascia is wrapped in gray vinyl and houses a Kenwood CD stereo with Bluetooth capability as well as a switch for the rear window defogger and knobs for fresh air control.
The aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel wears a Wolfsburg crest horn button and frames a 120-mph speedometer and an analog clock with an inset fuel level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 46k miles. The seller states the odometer is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled flat-four was reportedly modified to displace 1,835cc in 2022 with a 10:1 compression ratio. The engine features CB Performance Magnaspark ignition, dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors, an EMPI serpentine belt kit, a 60 amp alternator, an extended capacity oil sump, heat-wrapped heater boxes, and a stainless steel Vintage Speed exhaust.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle with a .82 splined fourth gear.
