This 1988 Ford Bronco Custom was acquired by the current owner as a project in 2019 and subsequently underwent a multi-year refurbishment. Work is said to have involved repainting the body in white and blue, retrimming the interior in red upholstery, overhauling the 5.7-liter V8 in addition to the suspension and brake systems, and installing an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold. Shifting is through a three-speed automatic transmission linked with a dual-range transfer case, and the truck rides on 15″ Mickey Thompson wheels mounted with 33″ tires. Additional equipment includes manually locking front hubs, a windshield visor, running boards, front captain’s chairs, air conditioning, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a digital radio with Bluetooth connectivity. This Bronco shows 98k miles and is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a factory build sheet, engine overhaul photos, a Carfax report, and a rebuilt Florida title in the current owner’s name.
The truck is finished in white and blue and was repainted as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. The seller states that the headlights, taillights, windshield, windshield wiper system, grille, body seals, and mirrors were also replaced. Further details include a windshield visor, running boards, and a receiver hitch. The Carfax report notes multiple fire damage reports in March 2019 and lists “moderate damage” with “damage to front, left front, right front, left side, and right side” of the vehicle.
The 15″ Mickey Thompson wheels are mounted with 33×12.5″ Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP white-letter tires, while a matching spare is affixed to the swing-away rear carrier. The front axle is equipped with manually locking hubs, and the shock absorbers were reportedly replaced along with the brake master cylinder, booster, pads, rotors, shoes, and drums.
During the refurbishment, the front captain’s chairs and a rear bench seat were reupholstered in red leather with cloth inserts, white piping, and Bronco-script letters in each seatback. The front seat frames were rebuilt, and the climate control vents, ignition cylinder, turn signal switch, door lock actuators, heater components, and window motors and regulators are noted to have been replaced. Sound deadening material is said to have been installed throughout the cabin, and further appointments include air conditioning, a digital tire pressure monitoring system, and an Inrico digital radio with Bluetooth connectivity.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership.
The 5.8-liter V8 was overhauled under current ownership and fitted with an Edelbrock AVS 2 carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold, an HEI distributor, and a fuel-pressure regulator. An aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan has been installed, and the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, engine mounts, and drive belts were also replaced.
Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A custom exhaust system has been installed, and the catalytic convertors have been removed.
Photos taken during various stages of the engine overhaul are viewable in the gallery below.
The Carfax report shows the aforementioned fire damage report as well as multiple Salvage title/certificate-issued entries.
The current Florida title carries a “rebuilt” Primary Brand and notes “NV-Totaled”, “NV-Salvage”, and “May have previously been declared a total loss vehicle due to damage” under the other jurisdiction brands section. A redacted copy is provided in the gallery below.
