Organic forms

From the massive daguerreotype camera first built in 1839 to the mini digital cameras of today, photography has come a long way. Learn more about this fantastic hobby and profession with our up-to-date articles.

Geometric forms are those which correspond to named regular shapes, such as squares, rectangles and circles. I like the fact that not all naturally occurring objects are organic and it is the precision and regularity of forms within the natural world which I find particularly inspiring. Below are just a few of many examples.

Here are a few sheets outlining the process and results for the homework this week. I put these together so you could keep track of how to put together compound curved forms and how to construct and evolve the angular/positional/flat plane forms with the rounded/organic/compound/"bubbly" volumes. I also included 3 pages of diagrams on with the ellipses and "jagged angle" section of the homework. If you follow the diagrams that further explains the compound form process we started in class…

The image shows a ceramic sculpture in a light gray color. The sculpture is tall and slender, with a unique, organic form. It is covered in many holes and indentations of various sizes. The surface of the sculpture appears to be textured, with tiny bumps and dimples. The sculpture resembles a coral reef or a piece of honeycomb. It is a very abstract and visually interesting piece.
