Alright, Dr. Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
One of the most crucial lessons that I have gleaned from my past employment experiences is that successful project completion necessitates unwavering concentration and adeptness in collaborating with diverse personalities.
Dr. Heather , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As the first Latin female to have earned a Ph.D. in Administration of Justice from Texas Southern University. I take pride in serving as a beacon of perseverance and determination for others who may face similar challenges in their educational journeys. Despite working full-time while attending evening courses, I remained resolute in my pursuit of higher education, and I draw from this unique experience to inspire others to do the same.
As a Professor of Practice at a Texas-based institution that serves a high percentage of first-generation college students, I am driven by a passion to ensure that all my students succeed in their academic pursuits. Beyond teaching, I also work as a consultant on various projects, including editing, writing, and developing strategies to promote equity in the workplace.
Through my exceptional achievements and unwavering commitment to education, I strive to serve as a role model and source of inspiration to all. I hope to encourage and empower others to overcome their obstacles and realize their full potential.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I learned was that each time you work on a project, the old way of doing things can change. Meaning, as a businessperson, you should always welcome and be able to adapt to change.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to always ensure each person I am working with feels a sense of equity on collaborative projects.
