Cardiac EP is one of the first practices in the Chicagoland offering the Watchman™ left atrial appendage to our patients.
WATCHMAN provides another option to the lifelong use of blood thinners for people with atrial fibrillation not caused by heart valve issues.
The risk of stroke can be effectively reduced with this permanent heart implant. It also eliminates the risk of dangerous situations that can occur with various blood thinners. In many instances regular blood tests and food-and-drink restrictions may be completely eliminated with WATCHMAN.
WATCHMAN is an implant that rests in the left atrial appendage (LAA). Blood inside the heart can pool in this area due to non-valvular induced A-Fib. The vast majority of all stroke causing clots begin in the LAA. The WATCHMAN implant is inserted through an artery in your leg and carefully placed in the LAA under general anesthesia. Patients usually stay in the hospital overnight for observation and are released the following day.
WATCHMAN is approved by the FDA and has shown to be effective in reducing the risk of stroke in patients. Over 80,000 WATCHMAN procedures have been performed worldwide. In clinical trials, there was a 95% success record of implants. Call Cardiac EP Consultants for more information on WATCHMAN.
