Hana & Hina After School Vol. 3 (2024)

This one got a little steamy at the end!

What a great conclusion to this series. One might complain that they resolved all their issues and were OMG SO IN LOVE really quickly, but those people would be bad and wrong.

Hmm :/ I’m actually kinda disappointed in this conclusion. The first two volumes of this story are super sweet and cute and a nice slow-burn and self-discovery, but then the first half of this volume was drama and distress and distance. Like, if they’d just talked to each other or something, they could’ve had their fluffy cuddles and kissing and loving so much sooner. But no, instead half the volume is Hana-Chan avoiding Hina-Chan because Hina panicked over Maiko and blurted that she doesn’t like girls and she’s “normal.” I dunno, I wanted more of the fluff and sweetness of the first two volumes, and instead this volume is half angst and half sensual/sexual relationship.

I still enjoyed the story and Hana and Hina are adorable characters, but this conclusion was definitely a disappointment to me.

A touching and to a wonderful love story.

Finally, after her even more misunderstandings, jealous classmates, & clashing schedules, both Hana & Hina confess to each other. They have a couple hiccups, but both girls are completely determined to always be together, no matter what. They even make a VERY public admission of their love, in an interesting way. Towards the end is, in my opinion,a very tastefully drawn love scene between Hana & Hina that really made me smile. Lie the old saying goes - "I love it when a plan comes together" . My ONLY complaint about this story is that it was only 3 books. I'd love to see a 2 - 4 book followup, in the same vein as Citrus+. If you love cute girls, and you love cute love stories, do yourself a huge favor and read this story!

When I first saw the first volume it was rated for "teens" then I read volume 2 and it said for "teens" again, so I concluded that volume 3 would be for "teens" but no. They made a very quick turn of events, I found out that it was for "elderly teens." So I think that if they would make the book just for teens that it would be much better, yes some pages would have the two characters being pretty close. I do not enjoy the twist and turn of events as in rating, and so I will now check every since books back so that I will not make the same mistake. The book without the "elderly teen" part was really good. It was very nice how the two characters would build a more solid and close friendship.

I really enjoyed the conclusion to this series, especially since I didn't know it was wrapping up here going into it. Seeing them work through their doubts to admitting their love for each other was a really satisfying arc, and I'm very pleased with their happy-ever-after together. At three volumes, this makes a great little love story with plenty of time to flesh out the characters, without ever feeling like the drama is dragging things out; I'll be happy to see what Morinaga does next after this.

A really lovely conclusion to this mini-series. I found it refreshing to have a story wrap up in three volumes without dragging on forever with unnecessary drama! And there's such a hopeful note to the final chapter -- it may not be realistic for a high school relationship to last forever, but according to shoujo genre conventions it's normal to forecast a happily-ever-after and I'm pleased to see that applied to a yuri story rather than a bittersweet "happy-for-now" ending.

A classic shoujo manga plot structure with 2 girls! It was so refreshing! The only think was, although I liked the ending, it was really abrupt? There was also no 5 or 10 years from now epilogue, which I really wanted it would have made things a little less abrupt, too. It was neat to have so few B plots, but I wish we had more Hana and Hina!!

A satisfying and heartwarming conclusion to the trilogy, volume three kept me engaged and interested in the storyline from start to finish. Even with the fairly obvious/easily foreseen plot points and the use of predictable literary devices for this style of manga, I was still rooting for the main protagonists, and I was not disappointed in the slightest!

This is the ending of the cute story of Hana and Hina and I have to say that I am very satisfied by how it ended :) . The characters even end in a photoshoot with wedding dresses! I definitely recommend this manga (although I have the feeling that if you are already a fan of Milk Morinaga, you have already read this one!).

4 stars. The drama and angst at the beginning was so good and I wish it would’ve went on just a bit further but this was still a great ending to this series. Watching Hana and Hina finally confess to each other was worth the wait and the ending was so cute. I loved it. This was a really fun and light series. Kinda wish there was more but that’s just me being greedy.

This falls a little flat compared to how fabulous the first two volumes were. It caves to some tropes that don't feel necessary. It does some stuff that isn't quite as joyously wholesome. It's still good. I still liked it. It's just not as amazing as it already demonstrated it knew how to be.

This book series seems to be partially out of physical print but is pretty easy to find used. You can buy it as an ebook if you have an issue finding them. Book 3 I had a tough time finding.

I got scared for a little while but I’m so glad that Hina and Hana got their happy ending.

If there's a problem with Morinaga's books, it's not that they're formulaic (indeed, she even provides a basic overview of her formula in the Author's Note), it's that they often end a little too suddenly. This may not be her fault, since I believe these stories run as serials in magazines in Japan, and are subject to cancellation just like a TV show with low ratings. But like a favorite show that is rushed to conclusion, this book is frustrating in that it leaves me wanting more.

Thus ends in this volume, the story of Hana and Hina. They overcome their usual nail-biting fears and insecurities, but with a bit of a whirlwind feeling; and they wallow just a moment in their youthful melancholies of worrying how their love will last, but it's not long before they shake it off and decide to just walk in the light. Sure, the interesting parts of any love story are the falling-in-and-out moments, while the being-ins are left as an exercise for the readers. But to me, these particular stories of hers read like modern fairy-tales, and I wish we could dwell with our characters longer in a more languid unfolding of their story.

The author does suggest that she managed to squeeze in an extra chapter than normal, which gave her a chance to wrap up things more to her liking; and certainly the story isn't so rushed as to feel artificial. But it's never enough, I guess, for me. I feel like I just got to know our characters, and now we're already saying goodbye. The effect is to make the happy ending a bittersweet one. Maybe it was seeing the end in sight, that also diminished the diabetic coma induced by Volume 2. Cuteness abounds, but not quite like before.

Still, I'll take what I can get, and I will just have to follow the author's prompting in her final note, where she says, "I hope you'll all join me in imagining their future together." What else can I do?

Milk Morinaga has outdone herself once again! The rightful queen of yuri has once again gifted us with a delightful story of two girls falling in love. You'd expect that I'd be tired of the familiar shojo manga tropes of love blossoming, self-doubt, and eventual happy ending, but as Morinaga has said herself, there's something about it being two girls that makes it endlessly enjoyable. My only grievance is that it was so short! The ending felt a teeny bit rushed, and I wish we could have delved more into Hina's past, as well as their future together. Even so, I adore this story. It's just so cute, I'll never get tired of reading these types of stories. Worth every penny!

Cute, funny, and just a really nice read with a sweet ending. Loved the two characters chemistry, and love Milk Morinaga even more now, I just hope they keep em' comin'.
