  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

The album, on a CD, in a digipack, 4real.

    There are 300 of them.

I wonder what will become of them?

    Answers on a postcard:

    (a) I'll still be carting them around to gigs in 3 years time, but will eventually sell them all and thus recoup recording/mixing/mastering/manufacturing costs and be able to make another one

    (b) they will still be sitting on top of my kitchen cupboards in 10 years time, awaiting transformation into some kind of pyschogeographic or performance #art project

    (c) I'll sell them all within 12 months and do a reprint and/or vinyl edition, with a very slightly different sleeve, and these original ones will become collectors' items.

    Who can say...

PS The first 51 of them were numbered and signed. Other copies are unnumbered but can be signed on request.

Now 03:54
Now… I’m gonna start now… Now… it’s gonna happen now… Now… I’m gonna start now… Oh, now… it’s gonna happen now… No more waiting around in my bed No more lazing on the internet I’m gonna do something else instead Get out of here, you creepy head! Not waiting for a better time I’m gonna set the world to rhyme Now Now… I’m gonna start now… Now… it’s gonna happen now… Now… I’m gonna start now… Now… it’s gonna happen now… No more getting up way too late No more slouching, stand up straight Gonna decide one thing to make Then make it, don’t procrastinate Not waiting for them to call my name I’m gonna set the world aflame I’m gonna be the one to make that change Yeah, yeah Oh, now… Oh yeah, I’m telling you, I mean it I’m getting up every day at 6 am I’m gonna get up by 7 am Well, I’m gonna get up by 11 am And I’m gonna write my songs I’m gonna write my books I’m gonna write everything Right? Right Right now I’m gonna start now Now… it’s gonna happen now Now… it’s gonna start now Oh, now… it’s gonna happen now No more scrolling through the night No more feeding on kryptonite Starting right here on the starting line I’m gonna learn how to climb I’m gonna be a superman Watch me go, I know I can I’m gonna learn how to fly Oh, now

Get back in the car, we’re going out I don’t care if they throw us both out You’ve got my back & I’ve got your shoes When I said I hate weddings I meant I hate seeing the people who meant something to me, mean something to someone else No I promise I won’t make a scene I won’t throw my drink over the queen I’ll show her that I’m better with you, oh yeah It’s much better, better with you It’s much better, better with you It’s much better, better with you & now we’re coming up to the part of the song where we’re gonna find out what’s really going down No I’m sorry I don’t wanna dance It just hurts to know I missed my chance She was the one I wanted you see But… despite that… I’m gonna pretend It’s much better, better with you It’s much better, better with you It’s much better, better with you Better with you, better with you Better with you, oh it’s better with you Better better better better etc Better better BETTER WITH YOU!

I’m very hungover today I need someone to say It’s fine for me to lay down in a heap I’m quite dehydrated today My brain’s in disarray I can’t focus on anything & I’m going to fall asleep But I don’t care, no I don’t care Because everything felt so good last night And I’m OK, yes I’m OK & the trees will all shield me from the light I’m very hungover today I need someone to say I don’t need to do anything anymore I’m feeling a little bit weak My brain has gone to sleep I might just slowly sink down To the floor… But I don’t care, no I don’t care Because everything felt so good last night And I’m OK, yes I’m OK & the trees will all shield me from the light

Did she mention me when you were in the park with her? Did she mention me when you were making art with her? Did she mention things that I’m not sure if I would like to hear? Does she look away when you mention me anymore? & when I get the sign I’ll walk across the capital to you, across the binary, from palace in the north to south I’ll find the way through Does she look away when you tell her that I look OK? Does she turn away when you tell her I’m probably not OK? Would she turn my gaze if I saw her now? Do you think I’m safe? Could I see her now, could I be around anymore? & when I get the sign I’ll walk across the capital to find a way to new realities from palace in the north to south across the binary, I’ll find my way through

Ghost 02:56
Helpless like a cat stuck outside the window Can’t unlatch the window, can’t detach from you Hoping for a crack in your determination To keep my observations shielded from your view I’m out here sending signs Scrawling on a postcard Waving to the coastguard I’ll wait for your dropped line Staring at a grey wall Don’t expect a phone call Walking in the air, but there’s no air to walk on Nothing to grab hold of, you’re still out of range Hoping for a change, some reconciliation Meet me on the station The moon’s an empty page I’m out here sending signs Scrawling on a postcard Waving to the coastguard I’ll wait for your dropped line Staring at a grey wall Don’t expect a phone call
6.
Free Food 03:14
This is a song about FREE FOOD & it’s called… it’s called FREE FOOD The rain is pouring down So wear your teacup crown Pour it into your soup You won’t believe what you save when you do it all this way The cobwebs in the trees are floating in the breeze The spiders hide away & the flies will be by when it’s time to be their prey Because the spiders, you see, They don’t have to work for the man They don’t have to work to get money to buy food from the man No, the spiders, they ARE the man They just take what they want But you know, we could be like that too When we’re walking along a parkland walk With a punnet in our hand, collecting blackberries To take home to make some jam OK… let’s make some jam Picking all the blackberries Digging up the roots I’m a born again freegan With a sack full of loot Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food This is a song about free food But being a song, it’s not just about food No, because this song, like many songs, employs the use of metaphor & in this song, perhaps food becomes a metaphor for love.. because we all need food, right? We need food, but we also need love We need FREE… FOOD… And FREE… LOVE… One day when love comes around She’ll rub my shoulders down And soak my aching feet What a steal when you feel Someone you wanna be felt by Yeah… oh yeah.. Let’s make some jam One of these days I’ll have it all on my plate When everything’s free Life will be so great Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food! Free food
7.
Mountain Top 02:58
I climbed up to the mountain top, oh yeah The way was rough but my limbs were tough, oh yeah I looked around at the land out there & I knew I could go anywhere oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah I feel asleep on the mountain top, oh yeah I woke up as the sun came up, oh yeah But down below, in the town below My friend had kissed the girl I love oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no I came back down from the mountain top, oh yeah I walked back to the parking lot, oh yeah I got in the car, went back to town, met her in a bar, he came round, the three of us just looked at the ground and I said oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no no no no no no no no no no no OH NO!
8.
When I look at you again, I see you in a different frame, I see the way your eyes would hide Before you walk away I dare you climb into my room I dare you climb up here and see through my eyes And see all this spread before us for I believed this would be an anchor for us See what you’ve done and tell me what you wanted tell me something I don’t wanna know I am not your number can’t be your call for comfort can’t be the one you claimed you wanted me to be ooooooh ooooh ooooooh ooooh etc Hey, you keep flying over you hide in the window frame Green lights that lead to nowhere You’ll not lie here again ooooooh ooooh ooooooh ooooh etc You can’t hide your face here now Look now
9.
Accidie 03:57
slowing down you hope for the best you’ll soon find time for the things you let slide as the shadows grow as the moon begins to climb feel the ebb of the tide noon demon pulls you under away from all care woe betide you for slowing down before your time lassitude is a crime accidie, torpor, lethargy of silent time quietly life slips by soon you’ll know how low languorous passivity will wind your blinds down
10.
A Scream 02:51
a scream tries to force its way between these walls of noise I never wanted part of this, I never want to fall in love with you! But it’s all just noise Yes it’s all just noise Sometimes I need to scream & shout to let my feelings out There’s a knot so hazy tipsy queasy dizzy dreamy In my heart But it’s all just noise Yes it’s all just noise It’s all just noise (all just noise) & it’s all just noise you’re lost in the noise (lost in my noise) yeah, yeah it’s you… aah… You’re tangled like a frantic spider in my web of hair But when I try to pull you out it seems there’s no-one there No, because it’s all just noise And you’re lost in my noise You are the ache in the noise It’s all… it’s all just NOISE

about

The first official album by Charley Stone,
featuring the Actual Band (v1.0)

Some of the songs on this album have been previously released as solo home-produced singles, recorded in the vicinity of the palace of the north. The arrangements are quite different for these Actual Band versions.

All songs and arrangements are subject to change eg for live performances or future recordings. There is no "definitive version".

Consider this album a document of the form they took whenever the three of us performed them live during the latter half of 2023 and early 2024.

NB the finished front cover has v minor differences to that shown in terms of placement of the "artefacts" ie copy-paste images of Actual Band members - but it basically looks like this. And any future repress of the CD or subsequent vinyl release will be slightly different again, so you'll know yours was the highly sought-after original. Hope this helps!
