How To Get Your Charming Mini Pig
It is imperative to check with city government regulations before bringing a pig into your home as a pet. Many cities do not allow pet pigs inside the city limits. Some cities do allow pigs with some restrictions, such as only one pig allowed per household, a certain number of acres, registration, vaccinations, weight limitations. Contact your local city government zoning office or look on their websites for animal ordinances. If you are not allowed to own a pig as a pet due to zoning laws, you can get help petitioning city council to change that restriction. Find more info here.
Check Zoning Laws
Step One
Find A Veterinarian
Step Two
You will need to have a mini pig experienced veterinarian in place before you add a mini pig to your family. This is extremely important. Not every vet will have the knowledge, experience, or comfort required to treat a mini pig. Some vets will not see pigs at all, not even in the case of emergency. This is a relationship that needs to be established right away. We recommend that you have your first vet healthy visit scheduled soon after your pig comes home. You may find a vet here on the AMPA Vet Map.
Step Three
Please submit a pre-screen application. The application is an effort to get to know you and your family better. We do have some requirements for ownership. This application also helps determine what temperament or personality might be the best fit for your family. Not every pig is the right fit for every family. We really want to do everything in our power to make sure you are getting a mini pig that will grow and stay with your family for a lifetime. Once approved you can place your deposit and be added to our waitlist.

FAQs

Statistics and measurements recorded by the American Mini Pig Association have proven that all pet or miniature pigs will grow to be an average of 15-20 inches tall by adulthood which is 5 years of age. The average range for weight is 75-150 pounds or more, however exact weight can never be predicted. Just like human babies, we just do not know how much they may grow weigh as an adult. Healthy diet, exercise, and environment all play a role.

Yes, mini pigs can get along with dogs, but they must always be supervised. One minute they can be very best of friends, but in a split second that can change with dangerous and even deadly results. Pigs are prey animals and dogs are predators. Their natural instincts can kick in resulting in a snap that be completely unexpected.
Mini pigs do great with most cats. Some cats are quite indifferent when it comes to pigs. Some cats absolutely love cuddling and loving on their pig sibling.

We are located in Billings, Missouri. We do arrange meeting part way to hand deliver piglets when it is possible. We also arrange travel with American Airlines. This can be a complicated process with many strict requirements. We take care of all of those arrangements including the USDA health certificate, microchip for permanent identification, and the required travel kennel for an additional fee and the cost of the flight.
Your mini pig will fly safely in a climate-controlled area of the plane. The American Airline employees are amazing with the piglets, going above and beyond making sure that the piglets arrive safely in your hands at an airport near you. As you can imagine, it’s not every day that a piglet flies so they get celebrity status attention including getting their pictures taken by awaiting travelers.
