As a unique reaction of Pd(II), the oxidative carbonylation of alkenes is possible with Pd(ll) salts. Oxidative carbonylation is mechanistically different from the hydrocarboxylation of alkenes catalyzed by Pd(0), which is treated in Chapter 4, Section 7.1.
