Feedback system

The measurement parameter can be the rotation speed of the motor, the column inlet pressure or the flow-rate so that three types of feedback system can be distinguished. [Pg.34]

This device is useful for compensating for possible variations of the motor speed due, for example, to power problems. However, it cannot correct the flow--rate variations due to fluid compressibility and system compliance, to check valve malfunction or to correct any leakage in the hydraulic circuit or mobile phase circuit. This measurement is made by using a pressure transducer, which is generally of the low-volume, on-line type. The raeasurfiment of the pressure serves either to ensure operation at constant pressure, to compensate for variations in liquid flow-rate due to compressibility or to damp finely the pulses. As indicated earlier, the flow-rate of a dual-head, special-drive reciprocating pump depends on the downstream back-pressure because of the compressibility of the liquid and the elasticity of the chambers. In the Haters Model 6000 pump, the output Of the pressure signal amplifier is fed to the motor speed control circuit to increase the pump speed slightly and keep constant the flow-rate at high pressure. The amount of compensation is adjusted by a potentiometer to allow for the difference in the compressibilities of the solvents. [Pg.35]

This correction is helpful in approaching the desired flow-rate, but it cannot be exact because the compressibility varies with the pressure in a different way for each solvent. This compressibility correction affects the average flow-rate but cannot damp the flow pulses. For this reason, the Waters Model 6000 pump is equipped with a high-pressure noise filter for partial smoothing of the fluctuations, For the same purpose, an additional capillary tube can be used at a limited pressure and flow-rate. The search for Turing patterns led to the introduction of several new types of chemical reactor for studying reaction-diffusion events in feedback systems. Coupled with huge advances in imaging and data analysis capabilities, it is now possible to make detailed quantitative measurements on complex spatiotemporal behaviour. The function of the oxygen sensor and the closed loop fuel metering system is to maintain the air and fuel mixture at the stoichiometric condition as it passes into the engine for combustion ie, there should be no excess air or excess fuel. The main purpose is to permit the TWC catalyst to operate effectively to control HC, CO, and NO emissions. The oxygen sensor is located in the exhaust system ahead of the catalyst so that it is exposed to the exhaust of aU cylinders (see Fig. 4). The sensor analyzes the combustion event after it happens. Therefore, the system is sometimes caUed a closed loop feedback system. There is an inherent time delay in such a system and thus the system is constandy correcting the air/fuel mixture cycles around the stoichiometric control point rather than maintaining a desired air/fuel mixture. While all these paramclcrs are extremely essential for a process line, with the R D in the field these limitations have been overcome with the use of phasor controls. To implement the.se controls different manufacturers have tidopled different control and feedback systems to monitor and control the torque and field components.
