More and more of us enjoy 'getting away'...and that often means going to a park or open area. When you get there, you follow a trail. Did you know there is a national trails advocacy organization, that is about to hold its 24th international conference?
That conference will attract about 600 trail builders, maintainers and equipment & component suppliers and designers. And it will be held here in Syracuse, Monday through Wednesday, at the Oncenter.

Mike Passo heads up American Trails, and says that the weekend will include about 200 speakers. They will also have off-site events to show off our area, including kayaking, mountain biking, horse-back riding, and hiking trips.
He says the 'trail business' is booming, and issues include dealing with overuse, and handling conflicts on multi use and mixed use trails.

The programs at the Oncenter are not open to the general public, but volunteers (for 4 hour shifts) get free access to all the Symposium events. He also suggests checking the group website for LOTS of information and ideas: www.AmericanTrails.org.
