College and Career Readiness Schedules

Programs

Adult High School Diploma (AHS) is an additional approach to secondary education that provides an opportunity for students to complete the AHS credits required by the State of North Carolina. The AHS Program is a cooperative effort between Coastal Carolina Community College and Onslow County Schools, providing tuition-waived classes in a lab setting, through distance learning, and seated options.

Students enrolled in the Adult High School Diploma Program cannot need more than six (6) credits to graduate based on Onslow County Schools standards. Students interested in the AHS program must submit an official, sealed copy of their transcript to the AHS Coordinator for evaluation.

Career and Life Skills courses are designed for adult students with diverse abilities who need continued support in functional academics and workforce preparation. The program is ideal for students who graduated high school with an Occupational Course of Study diploma or a Certificate of Completion and want to achieve a higher level of independence by focusing on the academic, vocational, and life skills needed to fulfill their goals. Classes offer instruction in Work Readiness, Reading, Writing, Math and Technology. Courses help prepare students to take their next step toward meaningful employment.

Digital Literacy classes are designed to provide students with the essential technology skills they will need in order to continue their education or begin a new career path. Computer Basics is designed to target fundamental skills such as using a keyboard and mouse, conducting internet searches, and utilizing e-mail. Computer Applications builds on these skills with instruction in word processing, spreadsheets and multimedia presentation software.

This course is designed to help individuals who are preparing to take the military entrance examination (ASVAB) to enter one of the U.S. military branches. As a student in this course, you will receive instruction in foundational education topics such as reading comprehension, mathematics, and applied science in a contextualized format which can help you to increase your AFQT score on the military entrance exam. This course is not for individuals already serving in the military.

Registration

To enroll in College and Career Readiness, adults and qualifying minors (16 – 17 years old) are required to pre-register in the Academic Studies Center, located in the Kenneth B. Hurst Continuing Education Building, room 200.

Students are required to:

Provide a valid driver license or other government-issued photo ID
Take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE)

The Academic Studies Center is open for testing Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Please arrive at least 2 hours before closing to give ample time to test.

Minor Applicants

Qualifying minors, students aged 16 or 17 who wish to participate in the College and Career Readiness program, must complete the Petition for the Admission of a Minor Applicant form. This form is available in the College and Career Readiness Office (Continuing Education Building, room 208).
