About Ruth Etting
Ruth Etting was a prominent pop singer born on November 23, 1897 in David City, Nebraska. She rose to fame as a 1920s radio star with popular hits such as “Shine On,” “Harvest Moon,” “Ten Cents a Dance,” and “Love Me or Leave Me.” Prior to her career in music, Etting worked as a costume designer before receiving her first opportunity to perform at local Chicago nightclubs.
Notably, she also appeared in Broadway productions of Whoopee! and Simple Simon. In 1937, after divorcing her first husband Moe Snyder, Etting married piano player Myrl Alderman.
