RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California natives Dara Bleiberg and Jacqueline Bywater scored three goals apiece to help the George Washington University women’s water polo team score a 12-10 win over Fresno Pacific University to begin the Colonials’ West Coast trip.

Playing at California Baptist University’s Lancer Joust, the Colonials pulled out a tight game, boosted by a strong start to the second half. After a back-and-forth opening half that finished tied at six, they scored five of the first seven goals out of the break and held on for the victory to improve to 6-4 on the season.

GW extended its lead to 11-8 on back-to-back goals by Bywater early in the fourth quarter, but Fresno Pacific scored the next two to get within a goal on Emily Woodruff’s score with 4:46 left.

The Colonials held the Sunbirds scoreless the rest of the way with Maggie Ball’s late goal padding the final margin.

Scarlett Hallahan chipped in two goals and two assists with Ball, Alana Ponce, Ally Jochim and Jaleh Moaddeli also finding the net.

Samantha Runyon provided a spark in net with five saves, eclipsing her previous season total in one outing.
