Thanks for uploading File:Louvres-antiquites-egyptiennes-img 2773.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

The "Langswitch" template's original intended use was to autotranslate system interface messages. Its use for the titles of paintings etc. is actually dubious and problematic, while the way that you're trying to use it on File:Enseigne Alsacienne revolutionnaire.jpg is quite strange... AnonMoos (talk) 15:00, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the problem with using Langswitch in this way; I have done so in countless Feature Pictures and Quality Images without anybody ever complaining, and I have seen it used in this way by others. Furthermore, your edit on File:Enseigne Alsacienne revolutionnaire.jpg breaks its French caption. Rama (talk) 15:53, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Salut Rama. Solvyns

Hello Rama,

First of all, i'd like to commend you on the quality of your photographs! It's good work you're doing.

I am interested in using one of your pictures of Solvyns' work, for illustrative inclusion in a book chapter i'm writing. Normally i am free to use his work as such, since there is no longer any copyright resting on it. However, i should mention the photographer. Are you ok with that? Also, in which way should reference you?

Kind regards,

Wim De Winter

Greetings,
thank you for your interest and your appreciation. You are indeed free to use the work without asking, but I am always glad to hear of people using an image I have contibuted, as it helps me direct my priorities towards the most useful subjects.
"Rama" would be fine, if you wish to mention the photographer (or any variant, like "Photograph by Rama", etc.).
My best wishes for you work,
Rama (talk) 19:42, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I notice you're the photographer of this image. I was wondering if I could entice you to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise because I feel it would be a little easier to look at. Thanks. CRRaysHead90 | We Believe! 17:54, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Awful photography

For the umpteenth time I've had to replace one of your images, in this case [[1]], which is awful beyond belief. If looks as if you've just taken a bunch of shots through the window of a camera shop and uploaded them without any attempt at asking the shopkeeper if you could loan it. If this is any indication of your work you're an absolutely useless photographer who seems to be incredibly persistent, which is a horrible combination. You're relentlessly spamming camera articles with sub-sub-sub-amateur rubbish and I find it offensive. It's demoralising. Why should I even bother if this is acceptable? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 14:08, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That seems rather harsh. We encourage all users to upload their work, and no one can learn to take good photos without taking bad ones first. Besides, images always exist until someone thinks that there's something better - it's the way wikis work. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:17, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Daguerre 1.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file ([[:File:Daguerre 1.jpg]]).

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Andrey Kashechkin - Andrey Kashechkin-IMG 1814.jpg

Hi - we'd like to use your image Andrey Kashechkin-IMG 1814.jpg as the new infobox image for w:Andrey Kashechkin. However, we want to crop the image before using it. Would we then upload the cropped version to replace your original, or upload it to Commons as an entirely new image, and if so, how? Please advise, as we don't want to make a mess of anything. THanks. Azx2 18:11, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Salut Rama.

--Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 01:51, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,
Bonne continuation. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 15:55, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have a question for another big article on the French ship on the Polish Wiki. Could you confirm, if the first commander's name was Yuge? It is quoted in a Polish magazine, but it might be a poor translation from a Russian article, where the name was written only phonetically (Yu-g-e), so I don't know if it's correct. Regards. But does Yuge look acceptable in French? Thanks. Pibwl (talk) 21:03, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yuge looks foreign, but it would depend on how you pronounce it...
Actually, from my understanding of how Russians transliterate names and my knowledge of French names, I'm fairly certain that a good guess for this name might be Hugues. But I have no easy mean to confirm it, sadly. Cheers! Rama (talk) 05:45, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
PS: or if the final "e" is pronounced, Huguet. Rama (talk) 15:37, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. As I've said, it was spelled Yuge in a Polish translation of this book, but considering, that a translator didn't bother to check proper spelling of Guyot Du Temple boiler, nor Louis de Bussy (translated as Bussie), I wouldn't trust it much :-) Pity. Pibwl (talk) 19:32, 1 September 2013 (UTC) By the way: is it OK to call this ship "Dupuy de Lôme" instead of "Dupuy-de-Lôme" (as in most old sources)?[reply]

Yes, "Dupuy de Lôme" and "Dupuy-de-Lôme" are equivalent. Cheers! Rama (talk) 19:47, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Rama, a long time ago you uploaded this and other Gradiva images. Comparison with the photo of the Gradiva in the Chiaramonti Museum shows clearly that you photographed a copy, not the original. Do you remember where you saw it and other details? I suggest to delete the redundant and inferior copy which as an admin you could do immediately. The commons gallery Gradiva is now not needed any more (I added the gallery to the images); also the description & notice at the head of the category I think could now also be removed (they anyway don’t apply to all the images). Unless you feel strongly about keeping them, I will delete them. Thanks and greetings --RM Vollmer (talk) 15:19, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
it is indeed a reproduction, which I own. At the time I though that it would be interesting to have these images since I could move freely around the object; of course, the reproduction is of a limited quality, and my photographic skills were even worse than they are now. I am sure that since that time, we have acquired have much better images, so thank you for your work in freshening this category and gallery.
Cheers and good continuation! Rama (talk) 19:51, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Rama, thanks for the information. I have two more questions:
1. What is the scale (approx.) of your preplica? I assume it is not a 1:1 copy?
2. Did you purchase it from the museum? Cheers --RM Vollmer (talk) 10:07, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
1. I think it must be a 1:1 reproduction. It's about 80 cm high, not an inconsequential object (I do not have it handy at the moment, else I'd measure it, sorry). I haven't found the dimensions of the original, but I think it is a plausible size for this sort of reliefs.
2. It was a gift, so I wouldn't know. Very likely from a museum shop, but not necessarly that of Chiaramonti.
Cheers! Rama (talk) 17:05, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, Rama, and best wishes --RM Vollmer (talk) 15:30, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I found the height of the original relief to be given as 74 cm, so your cast will be of scale 1:1. The image file description has now all the details. Many thanks again for your help, --RM Vollmer (talk) 20:12, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

U766 emblem question

Hi,

I have found, that you have created U766 emblem, which is linked on the U766 wiki page. I mean this picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:U-766.svg I'm very interested, what this emblem presents and what were your soruces, you have used to draw it?

Thanks, regards Maciek

I think I'd found this in a book, but I have no recollection of which one.
The emblem represents a red Chinese lantern.

How do I properly attribute your image on this link: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Patek-Philippe_MG_2582.jpg

Thank you. I can email you my site if you need it.

Hello, thank you for your interest in my image and for your rigour on attribution.

Hello Rama, some Wikipedians and I are working on the review of the Dunkerque-class battleship article on the german WP and I made a schematic drawing, showing the arrangement of its internal armor - like i did before for other battleships. It´s a simplified version of the old construction drawings of the "Marine Nationale". When I completed the work, I realised that I have no idea about it´s copyright status. Do you have any ideas on the matter? Alexpl (talk) 08:37, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
not really, but they are probably not clearly in the public domain. If you incorporate information from various sources, there will be a point where it will be fair to say that you used the plan as documentation for the information it contains, rather than to create a derivative of it; but you see that this is not the land of clear-cut cases.
Best of luck! Rama (talk) 19:18, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was afraid it would be something like that. Maybe one day Europe will learn from the US Gov PD - until that day I´ll better not upload this drawing. Thx. Alexpl (talk) 21:02, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rama,

I am one of your photos at http://911coned.com/ just wanted to give you a heads up and thank you.

Could you please let me know the appropriate attribution to give to you? If possible, I was hoping to do something like "Photograph by Name" in the footer.

Greetings, and thank you for your interest,
you can attribute the photograph as "Rama, Cc-by-sa-2.0-fr"; mentioning the licence is important, as it allows other potential users of the photographs to use it as well, as you did yourself.
Happy new year,

Wikipedia in the European Parliament

Since 2009 Wikipedians are visiting German and Austrian State Parliaments to take pictures of their members. They have been made available under a free license on Wikimedia Commons. They can be used in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects but also outside of Wikipedia - in compliance with the license conditions - for example by the Members of Parliament themselves. Besides the creation of free pictures of politicians, the project offers the deputies the opportunity to ask questions about Wikipedia and to discuss „their“ Wikipedia article (eg. to indicate possible problems with personal rights). For Wikipedians this offers the chance to explain their idea of „Free Knowledge“ and the work of the Wikimedia projects. In addition these contacts give Wikipedia photographers access to places that are not accessible to the public in order to produce free images. We now have the opportunity to visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg in February and perform a photography and editing project for the 764 MEPs there. In particular as the next elections for the European Parliament are upcoming in May, these new articles and photos are under a strong focus of the public. Volunteers should sign up on our Google form - note the section on the Commons project page about selection. I would be happy to have a supporting voice from you for the Grant request on Meta: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:PEG/Olaf_Kosinsky/Wikipedians_in_European_Parliament --Olaf Kosinsky (talk) 19:52, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Variation of the Croix du Guerre WWII; Red and White French War Cross

Hello!

I came across the WIKI link you posted with the red and white Croix du Guerre here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Croix-de-guerre-contraste-IMG_0949.jpg

Can you tell me any more about the variation and why it was made? I have a ribbon bar of these colours with the bronze palm attached. For a long time I thought it was a Danish Resistance Medal because the medal looks IDENTICAL to this red and white variation of the Croix du Guerre.

I'm trying to research the variation in order to verify the ribbon bar I own.

THANK YOU! Please contact me at wwiifiles@gmail.com

Hello,
I think that this is simply a French Croix de Guerre 39-45, whose green has passed a bit. Maybe you should upload a photograph or scan of your medal, it would allow us to compare and could be a valuable addition to Commons.
