Thank you for uploading files on Commons.
Please add author/source info. You could use GFDL-self for your own files for this purpose.
Please add your files to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Baybayin letters.
Please note that SVG is better format for such kind of images.

Image Tagging Image:Location_of_Guangzhou_within_Guangdong_(China).png
Thanks for uploading Image:Location_of_Guangzhou_within_Guangdong_(China).png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:19, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:MapofLhasa.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Coup de main
Bonjour Croquant.

- Bonne continuation--Bapti ✉ 10:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Salut,

Voir notamment Commons:Language policy#Name of files.

Bonjour Croquant,
- Ça me paraît bon.

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:49, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

Merci d'avance!--Mélanie Huguet (talk) 18:53, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Renommage de catégorie
Bonjour,
Tu as déplacé la catégorie Monument Historique vers Cultural heritage monuments in France aujourd'hui.
Cordialement, Coyau (talk) 18:15, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

I struggle to see the point of these tags. It's either acceptable here or not (and since practically all man-made structures are not acceptable - what's the point?). There are tags for non-copyright restrictions like personality rights, sure, but they don't intersect with subject. The loophole of "main subject or not so main subject" is too shaky to justify keeping when everything else says don't.
It seems that this template was not deleted yet simply because it's practically unused (just one screen of "what links here"). NVO (talk) 14:39, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Maine has only one coast. People refer to it as "the Maine Coast", or, less often, "the Coast of Maine". I have never seen the plural used in either case.
I would appreciate it, therefore, if you would create the new category Category:Maine Coast or, less desirable, Category:Coast of Maine. Thank you. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 17:33, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hello James,
- Thank you for your advice. You are absolutely right: "Maine Coast" if much more frequently used than "Coasts of Maine". In the recent days, I created several categories with this same form, used in previously existing ones: Category:Coasts of California or Category:Coasts of Massachusetts for instance, so I think the best solution is to ask for a bot renaming of all the US Coasts categories, and related changes in subcats and images. As I am not accustomed to this procedure here, I let you do it. Croquant (talk) 05:31, 17 June 2011 (UTC) (preceding comment moved from User talk:Jameslwoodward)
- Sorry, but I am not a bot person either, but I do know that this is nowhere near a large enough job to write a bot for the purpose. I suggest you clean this up the same way you did it in the first place -- using HotCat and or AWB. That won't take too long.
- Also, as you see, I moved your comment from my talk page to yours. Almost all of the experienced Commons users expect to have both sides of a conversation on the talk page where it began. This makes it more readable for third parties and keeps a better record of it. I will keep your talk page on my watchlist, at least for a week or two, so I will see your responses. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 13:07, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think I'll do this job "by hand", because, as I explained in my previous answer, I created several categories the same way, and there are hundreds of subcats and images to fix. Sorry. Croquant (talk) 13:11, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm -- your mess, your cleanup, I think. The combination of Hotcat and AWB would make it quick -- maybe thirty minutes. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 22:58, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- As there are many other interesting things in the life, I'll do nothing at all. Bye. Croquant (talk) 06:12, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Since this sort of refusal to clean up one's own mistakes happens very rarely on Commons, I have asked for the advice of my colleagues. "Thanks a lot."
I hope and think you meant this in the sense of "Thank you very much", but I suggest you be careful with it. In idiomatic American English, it is usually used ironically, as in "No thanks to you for doing something I didn't like".
It's easy to tell the difference in conversation, but in writing I'd use "Thanks", "Thanks much", "Many thanks", or, more formally, "Thank you very much".
If you're going to do much of this sort of category work, I suggest you look at AWB, which I mentioned above. While Cat-A-Lot will do all the images in a category very rapidly, you need AWB to change the subcats and galleries, also very rapidly -- AWB will, among many other things, do a search and replace of any text in a list of files. The list can be any list you construct, but you can also tell it to change "oldthing" to "newthing" in all files in a category which you give it. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 16:18, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for my bad American English: I meant "thank you very much", really. I am in trouble with AWB, as I didn't find any executable version for Windows, and I don't have room enough in my computer disk to load a C++ compiler, without cleaning a lot of files. So, I'll do it when I have time enough. However, thanks for the advice. Croquant (talk) 18:23, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, your English is very much better than my French.
- I don't understand your comment about AWB -- it is written for Windows -- I have run it on Win2K and XP with no problems, straight out of the download, for both WP:EN and Commons. As it happens, I installed it on a new machine today, with a download from here. You need to be authorized to use it on some projects, including separate authorizations on Commons, WP:EN, and WP:FR.
- Commons requires 200 edits before you can be authorized -- I see that you are a long long way past that, so I can authorize Commons for you if you wish. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 22:45, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Your link is precisely the one I was looking for and couldn't find. I had no problem to install it on my computer, so I'd appreciate being authorized by you to use it on Commons. Thanks ... very much. Croquant (talk) 07:09, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Croquant,
Thanks for your contributions. Would you like to have the "patroller" right ? I see you've been reverting bad edits, it would help if you could patrol those edits so that they are no longer listed in the "unpatrolled edits" queue and save time for COM:ANON. Thanks and let me know what you think or request on COM:RFR. –Krinkletalk 17:58, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Welcome, Dear Patroller !
Hi Croquant !
You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller ! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.
As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.
We could use you help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.
If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. -- RE rillke questions? 19:01, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Defaultsort
Bonjour Croquant.
--Zolo (talk) 09:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
Bailleul is a commune
Hello Croquant, thank you for categorizing my uploads. Bailleul is a commune as you thought. I also think Tour l'Anglais in Aunou-le-Faucon is a national monument. A sign was at the gate but I failed to note the distinction. The tower is a rare and famous 100 years war monument as it was the scene for a book(the Last Duel by Eric Jager) and a possible movie. The tower is currently being restored.
For your general information most of the upcoming images will be for communes around Argentan here in the Orne. Bonjour Croquant. C'est clairement "Cities and villages in France". De plus, "Localities of cities and villages" n'existe dans aucun autre pays. En toute cohérence, si ce nom est justifié, il faudrait créer Category:Localities of cities and villages. Cordialement, Jack ma (talk) 05:46, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- soit on crée un ensemble de catégories pour le découpage administratif en communes (Municipalities ou Communes), qui remplace l'ensemble des catégories actuelles mal nommées, ces dernières pouvant ensuite être utilisées pour tous les types de villages et de villes ;
- soit on crée une catégorisation générique supplémentaire, sans toucher à l'utilisation actuelle des catégories Cities and villages ;
- Cordialement, Croquant (talk) 07:01, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
A suivre, donc... Jack ma (talk) 07:38, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

I will be using your picture of the salon d'honneur at the Hôtel de la Marine (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Hôtel_de_la_Marine_JP2010_salon_d%27honneur.jpg) in a textbook. This being text, no hyperlinks, I wondered if you would like it to be credited in any way other than Wikimedia:Croquant --such as adding a real name, location, URL, whatever. I try to add the most specific local category (commune, departement) to the pictures. I could not determine to wich commune the place is, as this is not close to a local village. Cities and villages par département

Croquant (talk) 12:35, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Attention : tu as créé 3 catégories avec Cities and villages in Ain au lieu de Cities and villages in Aisne ; j'ai corrigé. Croquant (talk) 12:58, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Merci pour tout. Ain-Aisne, sorry.
--PierreSelim (talk) 10:05, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Fusion microcapsule.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Fusion microcapsule.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

WHICH station?
hello;
i'm just sorting through images & wasw wondering if you could tell me which train station in beijing this is? File:Outside Beijing Train Station.jpg
also; which direction it's facing (i.e.; towards the station, or away from it?), identify the buildings, etc...
what is visible in the photograph doesn't seem to be any part of THE Category:Beijing Railway Station, but i'm not clear if this is a view outside that station, or a different location entirely?
thank-you for your time & assistance :)

Panneaux routiers
Bonjour Croquant.
Jastrow (Λέγετε) 18:17, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Mont-Dore (nom officiel)
Bonjour Croquant.

Croquant (talk) 18:56, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
