Originally requested speedy deletion by Melmann as copyright violation for following reason: Picture taken by upper stage of Ariane 5 owned by Arianespace and operated on behalf of European Space Agency and is thus unlikely to be owned by NASA and threrefore unlikely to be in public domain. The image was uploaded to https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasas-webb-telescope-launches-to-see-first-galaxies-distant-worlds and therefore appears to be in public domain. If we are willing to grant that the image is owned by ESA, then they explicitly state that their images cannot be used for commercial uses, which is incompatible with Commons. They do state that they license some images under CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO, but this has to be expressly stated. I see no such statement on the source page provided.

Therefore, I conclude that the copyright belongs to the photographer Kopp and not to the eBay salesman who just scanned the photo. Deleted: The photographer probably was someone named Kopp from Falkenburg in Pomerania, but everything else, including the assumption that this photo is in the public domain, is only speculation. I can be rather sure that the photo dates from no later than 1946, because the town was given another (Polish) name then. Deleted: I'm not given enough information here to be able to determine the copyright status of this photograph. The photo is said to be from ca. 1930 and that a signed print was given to the headmaster of an American school in Paris Philip attended at the time. So it's probably French in origin. There is no photographer named, but does that really mean that the author is anonymous as claimed by the template {{Anonymous-EU}} that is used? Without more context, you can't really say that, so I'll delete the file per the precautionary principle. - Comment: File:VERITAS.png contains the same spacecraft illustration shown in File:Veritas20150930.jpg, which has a public domain provenance in NASA (here). I can't figure out where the spacecraft illustration originated (I don't have much free time to dig at the moment), but it seems likely that either VERITAS.png is also from NASA and therefore something we can keep, or the spacecraft image originated elsewhere, which means Veritas20150930.jpg should also be deleted. - I had time to do a little more digging today. I couldn't find a copy of just the spacecraft image from NASA, but I opened up the image and noticed something interesting: The edges are fuzzy. The original uploader hasn't responded to the notice for deletion, but here's what I think happened. This image - and possibly the others, only some of which I've checked - are edited copies of NASA imagery. (To support this argument, look at this image. The struts have an eroded quality they wouldn't have if this were the original render.) NASA stuff is generally PD, and PD stuff can be edited and redistributed on the editor's terms. If that's what happened here - and I stress the "if" - then this is exactly what the uploader says it is: Their own work. They still should have made that chain of provenance clear, to avoid exactly this situation, but if my theory is right then we can keep these images, they just need to be retagged. These three images show a copy of w:en:Charging Bull, which is notoriously copyrighted and cannot be enjoyed freely (sources: [1], [2], and [3]) since there is no panorama exception in the United States. While this copy is situated in Belgium which has freedom of panorama, Belgian FOP only covers works permanently situated outdoors. I suspect this Charging Bull copy (likely recent) is indoors, and was also only exhibited temporarily (for Génération 80 Experience, whose categories include "Category:Temporary exhibitions in Belgium").

- Keep This file has been here since 2006. The so-called "better version" (which I can't see any difference in) has only been here since 2012, so the comparison is irrelevant.
