This was asked about at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2021/06#File: Milwaukee Brewers cap logo on navy.png, but there was only one response and that response seemed to indicate that this wasn't PD-logo. The logo consists of the letters "M" and a "b" as well as a "baseball" combined together to give the appearance of a baseball glove and ball, but that combination seems to have quite a creative aspect to it that goes a bit beyond a simple text logo or font. The same logo is uploaded locally to English Wikipedia as en:File:Milwaukee Brewers logo.svg licensed as non-free content, and that can't be the case if this file is OK as currently licensed. According to the article en:Milwaukee Brewers#1978–1993 , the logo was actually designed by a college student sometimes around 1978; so, perhaps it was a en:work for hire and the copyright was transferred to the team per this. However, the team might still hold the copyright on it if they they registered it as such. Of course, it's possible that this could be {{PD-US-no notice}} or {{PD-US-1978-89}}, but it would seem to be a bit careless for a major professional sports team and a major professional sports league to not register the team's branding. So, I'm not sure this can be kept per COM:PCP unless the consensus is that it meets "PD-US-no notice". Just for reference, I Googled "Copyright status of Milwaukee Brewers Logo" and the first hit I got was a link to this page. Now for sure, there's a difference between trademark and copyright and Commons host lots of trademarked logos. However, it seems that the someone associated with the team or Major League Baseball. I get that trademarks need to be actively enforced, but again this a major league baseball team and the logo isn't logo enough to be PD simply due to it's age unless it didn't not have a notice. Moreover, the logo is still used as part of the team's primary branding these days which means it might not meet the "inclusive" for the PD-US-no notice license even if it wasn't originally provided with one, and a copyright notice isn't required for US works after March 1, 1989. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:24, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
