Badname (see w:Flag of Western Sahara) Juiced lemon 13:02, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- This file is a component of an extensive propaganda operation in the English Wikipedia, and probably in other Wiki projects. Western Sahara is a disputed territory in Western Africa, and the propaganda operation aimed to engender the mix-up between this territory and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, a state which claims Western Sahara, but don't control it (Morocco controls most of Western Sahara).
- A new image has been uploaded (Image:Flag of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.svg) with a neutral name, matching the English Wikipedia article Flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
- The deletion of this file is needed to cut off some propaganda actions. --Juiced lemon 13:24, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Question. I notice that the new file name was just a copy of this image, but reuploaded without stating original sources or other information. Can that be copied over way before this image gets deleted? User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 15:12, 30 October 2007 (UTC)- Juiced lemon is mistaken. Image:Flag of Western Sahara.svg was uploaded when w:Flag of Western Sahara (20051008) was actually about this flag, and in accordance with long-standing naming conventions established at least in part by members of Commons:WikiProject Flags (including the original and current file uploaders). If anything is part of a "propaganda operation", it is Image:Flag of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.svg; see w:Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive309#Editwarring_on_Western_Sahara_articles. ¦ Reisio 19:36, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Reisio on this. I'm against the deletion request. —Nightstallion (?) 22:25, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- I doubt it is some propaganda issue being made on the various Wikipedias and we should at least to solve the edit wars on en.wikipedia before even we come close into dealing with this deletion debate. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 01:44, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep Juiced lemon is extending a proxy debate about an en.wp article (Flag of Western Sahara) here. Koavf 20:16, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Keep just to make it obvious to the vote counters. I am not sure how the other wikipedias deal with the file name choices, but they should have a choice between filenames. If they want to use WS, then they can use this file. If they use SADR, they can use the other file. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 21:17, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- These are misleading arguments. The responsibles of the propaganda have already requested the deletion of the other file. More, you would know that the image names of such flags are used in templates, therefore it will be impossible to match the SADR with its own flag, unless some wrong association between SADR and Western Sahara, that is precisely the aim of the pro-SADR propaganda. --Juiced lemon 01:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I mark all redundant images I see as redundant, and take no part in any propaganda. ¦ Reisio 02:40, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- According to your contributions, you don't see a lot of redundant images. --Juiced lemon 03:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- A conservative estimated percentage of my edits to Image: pages (including simple reversions) that were for marking images as redundant is 16% — remove reversion edits, and it goes to 36%. My guess is that's higher than average, not that it matters in the least (besides once again showing you haven't done your research). ¦ Reisio 04:42, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- The other image is gone, so this issue is technically moot. Juiced, some of the comments you placed after mine got me confused. Can you email me about the issue? I dealt with some of the SADR folks on en.wikipedia, but the issue is just driving me nuts. Thanks. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 16:14, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
