English: मे ते सप्टेंबर हा याच्या विणीचा हंगाम असून सुगरण पक्ष्यांमध्ये नर हा मुख्यत्वे घरटी बांधण्याचे काम करतो. सुगरण पक्ष्यांचे घरटं म्हणजे उत्तम कारागिरीचा नमुना, म्हणूनच त्या पक्ष्याला सुगरण हे नाव मिळालेलं आहे. गवताच्या लांब लांब काडया चोचीने खुडून झाडावरती पक्की जागा हेरून तो घरटं बांधायला सुरवात करतो. नारळाच्या पानाचेच सोपट वापरलेलं जाते. चोचीने गवताची काडी खालीवर गुंफत तो हे काम करतो. खालच्या बाजूला ते घरटं पुंगीसारखा गोल आकार धारण करतं. गोल फुगवटयाची जागा अंडी ठेवण्यासाठी त्या बाजूला कापूस किंवा मऊ पदार्थ ठेवला जातो. वा-याने घरटं हलू नये म्हणून आत मातीचे गोळे ठेवून ते जड केलं जातं. असे घरटे एखाद्या झाडाला किंवा विहिरीत किंवा अन्यत्र सुरक्षित वाटेल अशा ठिकाणी झाडाला टांगलेले असते. कधी-कधी बाभळीच्या झाडावर अगदी उंच फांदीच्या टोकाला कधी ३० ते ४० घरटी आपणाला पहावयास मिळतात. एकावेळी ४ ते १० अर्धवट घरटी बांधून झाल्यावर नर घरट्यांच्याजवळ एखाद्या ठिकाणी बसून मादीला आकृष्ट करण्यासाठी छान गाणी म्हणतो. सुगरण पक्ष्याच्या मादीला घरटे निवडण्याचा अर्थात वर निवडण्याचा अधिकार दिला आहे. नराने बांधलेलं घर आर्किटेक्टनं तपासावं तशी ती पहाणी करते. घरटे आकर्षक व सुरक्षित वाटले तर नर मादीचं मीलन होतं मग यापुढची सारी कामे म्हणजे अंडी घालणं ती उबवणं ही कामं मादीला करावी लागतात. एका मादीशी संबंध आल्यावर नर दुसऱ्या मादीला बोलाविण्यासाठी परत गाणी म्हणतो. नर सुगरण एकावेळी एकपेक्षा जास्त मादींचा "दादला" असतो. पण अर्धवट बांधलेल्या घरट्यांपैकी जर एकही घरटे मादीला पसंत पडले नाही तर नर ते झाड किंवा तो संपूर्ण परिसर सोडून अन्यत्र नवीन घरटी बांधायला सुरू करतो. |
