The Beetle or Type 1 was built from 1938 to 2003, starting out with a 1.1 rear mounted air cooled flat four engine and increasing in capacity as time went by. In 1953 a split rear window was replaced by a 1 piece, 1957 it got larger, 1964 the size of the other windows increased. Herbie featured in the film, 'The Love Bug' in 1968, a car that had a mind of its own and could drive itself. There were many sequels; 1974; Herbie rides again, 1977; Herbie goes to Monte Carlo, 1980 Herbie goes Bananas, 1997; The Love Bug, 2005 Herbie Fully Loaded. |
