Description

The XD Falcon got a completely new body, a boxy European design rather than curvy American lines of the earlier years, the grille and square headlights similar to Europes Ford Granada. But it was still an XC Falcon underneath with same floorpan and suspension. The new top of the line; Fairmont Ghia got alloy wheels, velour upholstery and full electrics 1980 saw an upgrade on the 6 cyl; alloy head and electronic ignition. (Identified with Alloy head badges on the front guards). Engines; 3.3 and 4.1 6s or 4.9 and 5.8 V8s Sedan; GL, Fairmont, Fairmont Ghia and ESP Wagon; GL or Fairmont Ute; Standard or GL Van; Standard or GL An XD won the James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst in 1981, driven by Dick Johnson and John French. A limited 20-25 cars were built by Phase Autos to homologate the body kit for the XD race cars. That included the front, roof and boot spoilers and the bonnet bulge. They also got Recaro seats and Momo steering wheel. Engine; 225kw 351 Cleveland V8
