| Description |
Patch of the U.S. Navy Attack Squadron 45 (VA-45)/Fighter Squadron 45 (VF-45) Blackbirds. Official description: The insignia's poised and cocky blackbird, regally attired in tails, sports a derby and boxing gloves which represent the squadron’s tactical punch. The blackbird was selected for its vigorous nature in attacking and outwitting its enemies. The green derby signified the original squadron colours as part of Air Group Four. The original four regular and 20 reserve pilots attached to the squadron are recalled by the “4 and 20”. The shredded and smoldering cigar denoted that most of the pilots were older and more experienced than in many other squadrons. |
