Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Cockfosters Underground Station, 6 April 2023.

The station was opened in July 1933, the terminal of the 1932-33 extension from Finsbury Park of the Piccadilly Line. The station was designed by Charles Holden, consultant architect to the Underground Electric Railways of London, in European Moderne style.

The station building was quite modest which belied the quite grand concrete and glass trainshed beyond. There are three tracks to four platform faces so that each track lay between two platforms. This allowed passengers to detrain one side and waiting passengers to board the other, thus segregating alighting and boarding passengers and speeding up the flow of passengers – the so-called Spanish Solution. It is a Grade II listed building.

Pictured is an original platform waiting shelter.
