Deutsch: „Das Wappen der Stadt Oberhausen zeigt in einem durch eine silberne (weiße) Spitze von Blau und Rot gespaltenem Schild darin schräg gekreuzt ein schwarzer Schlägel und ein schwarzes Eisen, vorne ein von zwei silbernen (weißen) Schlangen umwundener silberner (weißer) Merkurstab, hinten gekreuzt eine silberne (weiße) Zange und ein silberner (weißer) Hammer, überdeckt mit einem silbernen (weißen) Zahnrad; im Oberwappen eine silberne (weiße) Mauerkrone mit fünf Türmen.“
English: „Party per pale shield azure and gules with an enté en point Argent, charged with a hammer sable saltirewise with a pick sable; ahead an upright cacadeus Argent and rear a hammer Argent saltirewise with a plier Argent, thereupon a gear Argent. Above the shield a mural crown Argent with five embattled towers."

Deutsch: Am 21. Oktober 1952 verlieh das Innenministerium Nordrhein-Westfalen das Wappen neu in seinen heutigen Farben. Das Wappen wurde der Stadt bereits 1888 von König Wilhelm I. von Preußen verliehen, allerdings war das vordere Feld zunächst schwarz statt blau.
