[edit]DescriptionInner Range Light Lens (7572655592).jpg |
This video shows the original Duluth South Pier Inner Range Light fresnel lens in motion. It rotated around the light source and has flash panels that focused the light into distinct beams. This made the light appear to flash when viewed from a distance. Originally, the mechanism that rotated the lens was a clockworks that worked very much like a large grandfather clock. Today it is rotated by an electric motor. The clockworks is still intact -- it is just no longer used. This lens is on display in the Canal Park Marine Museum in Duluth, MN. It was removed from the lighthouse in 1995 due to deterioration of the lens. It was restored and placed on display inside the museum. The lighthouse now used a plastic fresnel lens that is rotated by an electric motor. |
