Description
Nederlands: Standbeeld van Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding (1998) door Faith Winter net buiten de RAF-kerk St Clement Danes op The Strand in Londen. Tussen 1936 en 1940 was hij de opperbevelhebber van Fighter Command, het jageronderdeel van de RAF. Hij moderniseerde het systeem van bevelvoering door het luchtruim te verdelen in operationele sectoren, die werden toebedeeld aan specifieke gevechtsgroepen. Bovendien zette hij een keten van op van radarstations met radiocontrole.
English: Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding statue outside the RAF church St Clement Danes on the Strand was sculpted by Faith Winter and erected in 1998. He was Air Officer Commanding RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain and is generally credited with playing a crucial role in Britain's defence.
