Description Mission Dolores, in downtown San Francisco, was founded in 1776. It is the oldest structure in the city. It is one of about 21 missions founded in Calfornia by Fra Junipero Serra (1713-1784), a Franciscan friar. The formal name is Mission San Francisco de Asis.
