Object history
Deutsch: Das Gemeindewappen ist vom ältesten bekannten Familienwappen der Pucher übernommen, die sich nach ihrem Sedlhof Buch am Erlbach nannten, wo sie vom frühen 14. Jahrhundert bis 1587 ununterbrochen belegt sind. Die Buchenblätter reden sowohl für die Pucher selbst als auch für den Gemeindenamen Buch. Der Namenszusatz am Erlbach ist seit 1431 belegt. Das Wappen weist große Ähnlichkeit mit dem seit 1479 bekannten Wappen des Benediktinerinnenklosters Frauenchiemsee auf, das seit Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts mit Buch verbunden war. Buch am Erlbach war bis zur Säkularisation 1803 die bedeutendste Hofmark des Chiemseeklosters.
