Both film buffs, and decorating fans, have long been fascinated by that sculptural house Hitchcock cooked up for James Mason to live in, near Mount Rushmore. (Of course, it was never a real house-- but what an impact it has had on audiences.
Those wild and crazy cantlevers. Those dramatic angles. The comforting combo of wood, stone and glass!
The architect Marina Coates has done one of her detailed, imaginative computer graphic tours of the fabled interior of the house. I'd post the link here, but QVC seems to be skittish of video links now. So, just google "Marina Coates Mockingbird Lane" and it'll pop right up.
She takes us right through the house, and even fleshes out Eva Marie Saint's bedroom, bath, and the kitchen too, very satisfactorily.
Always thought this little gallery or "bridge" area that Cary sneaks across was so interesting, with its view of the soaring, double height living room.
Marina Coates' video is full of fascinating detail, plus little extraneous tidbits like the 3 pieces of acting advice for this role that Hitchcock gave to Eva Marie! Super fun video .
I've asked this question before in other guises, but what is your favorite movie "house" or interior of all time?

That's a real find, @Oznell
I'm going to take some time to look at all of it.
I like my surroundings to be cozy so while I can and do admire lots of styles and craftsmanship, I feel most comfortable living somewhere that's small (and on one level!).
Sorry, you asked for favorite movie house. I think it might be Meryl Streep's Santa Barbara home in It's Complicated. (Definitely not chosen due to $$.)

Thank you for the "North by Northwest" house photos, @Oznell
I would be very comfortable living in the "Father of the Bride" house, the second version, with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton.

@Oznell - I have two - the beautiful ranch house in The Parent Trap (the original with Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara). The second is Doris Days' apartment in Pillow Talk.

One I liked was the farmhouse in Christmas In Connecticut. Another Christmas house I liked was the NYC mansion in It Happened On 5th Avenue.

My favorite house is Dr Mark Sloane's
(****** Van D) on Diagnosis Murder.
Especially his deck/balcony overlooking the ocean!

I loved the "Home Alone" house...before Kevin and the bad guys got to it. Then, of course, there's the "Downton Abbey" abode.

Any house in a Nancy Meyer's movie!

The only house I remember that stands out is the one used in Home Alone. The 1980's interior decor was a bit much, but it has great bones.
First photo is current, redecorated after Home Alone. For me, blah color scheme.
Second photo is from the movie. I like red much better.
Third photo is Kevin about to slide down the stairs.

I love The house in Christmas in Connecticut, The Victorian Home in Burnt Offerings (Bette Davis is in this great horror movie), the home in the movie The Inviting, Hepburn's apt. in Desk Set, there really are too many appealing homes to list. I am a fan of settings and always notice everything in movies , decor, furnishings. I love formal and elegant The Versailles at France has been my dream house since I saw it in the sixties. Dream on , Spiderw, dream on, LOL!!!!!!!!
