Our Featured Employee
Wendy Boardman
It wasn’t unusual for the kitchen staff to wonder, “Shouldn’t Wendy be back by now?”

Wendy took a part-time job in a nursing home kitchen when she was a teenager. Her great-grandmother lived in the facility, so it seemed like a good deal. But Wendy didn’t realize that this was the start of life long caregiving career. Her position included delivering meals to the residents, and over time she started to spend more and more time getting to know the residents on her rounds and even helping them with small tasks. Soon, the need for kitchen staff to call her back to her job in the kitchen!

A little later in life, Wendy began work as a caregiver, nervous and apprehensive about her skills. She was told she was “a natural” and the work began to grow on her. She wanted to know more and to be able to do more for her clients so she studied and earned her CNA license. Wendy has had the joy of caring for family members and many clients over the last 20 years, and always enjoys knowing that she has helped to make an elder’s day better.

At Cahoon Care, we appreciate how passionate Wendy is about her work and her compassion for those that she cares for. Recently she held the hand of a client as he passed away and she expressed that she sees it as an honor to be with a person as they pass. Wendy takes great pleasure in the opportunity to meet new clients. She says she enjoys working with Cahoon Care because we are easy to get along with and we look out for each other. The same could be said in return of Wendy.

Congratulations on being Caregiver of the Quarter and thanks for being part of the Cahoon Care Team.

Best Practices When Using Your Smartphone
When reviewing and accessing confidential information through your smart phone or tablet, please keep in mind that the eRSP system we use is secure but your method of accessing may not be. For instance:

Be aware
Public Wi-Fi is inherently insecure.

Using your mobile phone network
We consider accessing eRSP and other sites via your mobile phone network, a secure option.

Treat all Wi-Fi links with suspicion
Don’t just assume that the Wi-Fi link is legitimate. It could be a bogus link that has been set up to capture valuable, personal information such as passwords.

Use a VPN (virtual private network)
By using a VPN when you connect to a public Wi-Fi network, you’ll effectively be using a ‘private tunnel’ that encrypts all of your data that passes through the network. This can help to prevent your data from being intercepted.

Don’t text or handle your phone while driving.
Texting while driving is dangerous and illegal in many states. If you must speak on the phone, use a speaker or headset and hands-free controls.

Share location mindfully.
A growing number of apps allow friends to pinpoint each other’s physical location. If you use such a service, be mindful that you could be locating a client’s private home.

Share with care.
Use the same good sense about what you post from your phone as from a computer. Once they’re posted, text, photos, and video are tough to take back, can be copied and pasted elsewhere, and are up there pretty much forever. Think about the people in them (including you!). Reputations are at stake.
